Chapter 11
Emily's POV
...
later that afternoon, the principal made an announcement for all the high schoolers and middle schoolers to gather in the school gymnasium after lunch.
Today I didn't see Adrian anywhere, he was probably sick or something, I was just really grateful for it.
All of my friends went to the gymnasium hand in hand. The crowd was just too much and we had to stand according to the height order, I and Paige were pushed to the front of the line, I rolled my eyes. Why did I have to be so short?
Next to me was Layla, the new girl and Reyna, a skinny looking girl.
"Hi, Emily." Layla said smiling at me. I was just confused as to what she wanted, she was such a wannabe and would do anything to look like the popular girls.
"Hi" I returned the smile but withheld most of the warmth.
"So, I heard that someone likes Adrian, did you know that?" She asked me with a fake accent. I hated it when someone faked an accent, why would you do that? It's so annoying.
Anyway, the question took me by surprise, I nervously replied "Um..n-no.....wh-who is it?" I asked.
"You don't know? OMG! You seriously don't know?" At this point I figured it out that she was provoking me.
"What do you want?" I asked her
"What do you mean?" She asked me.
"Who told you?" I asked slowly.
"What are you talking about?" She asked innocently.
"Layla, who. Told. You?" This time I stressed on each and every word.
"It doesn't ma-"
"Just tell me already, will you?" I cut her off harshly.
"Daisy" she shrugged her shoulders.
I felt betrayed, my trust was broken. How could she do that to me? I should've figured it out myself, she was the only one I told my secret about. I am so naive and foolish. It felt like my entire world was crashing down.
I nodded my head and turned to the scene in front of me. Principal Maria Rose entered the gymnasium, she lectured us all about discipline and how we all were being irresponsible. I zoned out during the entire speech. My thoughts were already preoccupied with the different scenarios unfolding in front of me when I confront Daisy about what I heard.
Finally, after an hour, principal Rose dispersed us, I tried not to talk to any of my friends while on our way to class.
I kept walking away from them, but Daisy kept running back to me. I was a little annoyed as to how she can act so well.
I stormed into the classroom and took a seat. Daisy sat next to me in Alaska's place.
"What is wrong with you? Why do you keep running away?" She asked slightly out of breath.
"Well, who would want to be friends with an untrustworthy person?" I spat as I looked at her with a glare.
"What do you mean Emily?" She asked confused.
"Don't act like you don't know what I'm talking about" I snapped.
"I really don't know what is going on" she shook her head.
"Didn't YOU tell everyone that I liked Adrian?"
Realisation drew upon her features. "I can explain Em-"
I put my hand in front to make her stop. "Save it, I don't need any explanation. I though we were friends and we can share secrets, now I know how trustworthy you are, don't ever talk with me again." I said and ignored her presence.
She sat there and tried to apologise and tell something, but I kept cutting her off by closing my ears. This eventually ended as Alaska returned to her place once our teacher entered the room.
I pretty much ignored Daisy the rest of the day. Alaska, Paige and Natasha didn't have a clue as to what was going on, they weren't much into school gossip.
Alaska and Paige were total Bollywood freaks, they love the Bollywood songs and would never miss a new movie. They also drag me along with them sometimes, which made me love Bollywood but not as much as they do.
Natasha was always too busy with school work and studies, her mom would never allow her to get distracted.
I was grateful that my other friends didn't know what was going on.
Mom said that she will pick Eva and me up after school, to watch an animated movie, something that Eva was begging mom to take her from last week. I really wasn't into animated movie except for Disney.
I looked outside and caught a glimpse of the beautiful autumn weather in New Jersey. Colours of gold, red, brown and yellow was everywhere, this was such a beautiful season. The colours helps me calm my mind and focus better on things.
I was finally happy that the school was over, I picked up my bag and rushed outside the class once the teacher left but was stopped by someone.
Daisy was standing in front of me. I sighed.
"What?" I asked looking down.
"You have detention with me remember?" She said which made me groan.
"What did I even do to deserve this?" I groaned again and made my way to the detention class.
I have never been to this class even once, I was such a good student. Detention was only for the rebels and Daisy was surely one of them.
Our library teacher was sitting on the chair, she frowned when she saw me enter the room.
"Emily, why are you in detention?" She asked me.
She was one of the sweetest teachers I've ever seen plus I am her favourite student mainly because I like to read books silently and the other girls and guys like to do everything else apart from reading books.
I gave her a loop side smile and answered her "I laughed when our teacher was scolding a girl"
Mrs. Walker just sighed and shook her head "These teachers hand out detention slips like candy"
I chuckled and handed her my detention slip, then I went over to the first desk.
There were a few others in the room already, there was this guy who always gets into fights, and then there was this other guy who chewed bubblegum during Mrs. Kale's class. I felt a little bad for him, he was on the verge of tears after she finished scolding him.
Daisy entered the room making me look away in anger. She handed her detention slip to the teacher and took a seat next to me.
I rolled my eyes and showed my annoyance, but she clearly didn't get the hint.
"What is your problem?" I asked her in a hushed tone.
"I'm really sorry Em, I can explain" she looked desperate.
I shook my head at her "save it Daisy, I don't want to hear it, don't waste either of our energies."
"Please Emi...." she begged me.
I felt a little bad for not letting her talk, everyone deserves a chance, even though what they did was completely unforgivable. Daisy had been friends for a really long time and we were together through every situation. I looked at her and sighed.
"Ok tell me what happened" I said.
Her eyes lit up a little and she started talking "I know how you wanted me to keep it a secret, but I thought that our other friends also had enough rights to know this, so I said Alice about this. Only Alice and no one else, I promise. The next day she said that everyone knows about this and then I realised that it was her fault but I didn't blame her. She wanted to become popular among the people so she said these things to Samantha. What I did was wrong and I accepted it but I don't want to loose our friendship Emily. I care about you way too much to let you go, please forgive me..."
I patiently listened to her words and my face gradually softened.
"But Daisy, what you did will always be a scar in our friendship, I hope you know that and yeah you are forgiven." I smiled and hugged her.
She smiled widely and returned the hug.
We both chatted for a while after her apologising me. I missed her a lot even it was for a few hours. Alaska and Daisy are very close to my heart and I will never give them up for anything or anyone.
After detention we both decided that it was best to meet Ms. Jenny and tell her why we didn't attend today's hockey practice.
"Where is she?" I asked. We were on the school's basketball court with our bags in our hand looking for Ms. Jenny. She was nowhere to be found, but I am pretty sure she came to school today. We searched the teachers' staff room, sports equipment room and also the whole playground but she was nowhere to be found.
We finally gave up and decided to go home.
I walked to my home instead of waiting for my mom to pick me up in her car plus the school must've already informed her that I had detention, I already missed my practice so I needed some kind of activity for today. The feeling of the fresh air through my hair was refreshing. I breathed it in and tried to enjoy it when a flash of red whirled past me, messing up my already messy hair. Ughhh! Now I got hair all over my face!
I furiously looked to my front, it was a red car, Ferrari in particular. There were guys getting out of it. Not just any guys, but the guys from my school. I quickly hid behind a wall to see who all were there.
First, Greyson got out followed by The jocks mostly, I rolled my eyes but someone caught my eyes, it was Adrian. His bag slung on one shoulder and looked effortless. I thought he didn't come to school today? Oh, I didn't see Greyson and his friends too, which leaves me thinking that they probably just bunked school.
His messy brown hair was even more messed up by the wind once he stepped out of the car. His eyes slowly turned to my direction but I was quick to hide behind the wall.
I sighed. I didn't want him to think that I was stalking him or something. Once they went inside the building, which I assume is someone's house, I sprinted as fast as I can and ran out of their sight.
I arrived at our house and found it was locked. I groaned and kicked the stone nearby. I looked around for anyone familiar but no such luck.
I sighed and sat on the front porch of the house.
It wasn't very dark yet since it was only 6 in the evening. There were a few cars which passed by. When I was about to give up all my hope, I remembered that mom and Eva went to watch a movie and if they were late, she told that I could use a key under the rose flower pot in the garden which mom left for emergencies.
I slapped a hand on my forehead at my stupidity and ran to the pot and picked up a key which was under the flower pot. I used it to open the front door and locked it after. Why didn't I think about this earlier?
I threw my bag on the sofa and stretched my muscles. I ran up to my room and opened my laptop.
I then logged into Facebook, there were a couple of requests and messages from unknown people, I ignored all of them and opened my feed. There were the pictures of Saturday's party at Arabella's. Apparently the party became very famous along with Arabella. Her name was heard everywhere in the school today. I even heard a few people say that she was going to throw another party soon.
I decided to stalk 'his' page again. Pictures of Saturday night floated on his feed. Every picture was with someone different, mostly girls. I ignored the pang of jealousy that seeped into my heart.
I opened the chat box and reread all the messages. I replayed all the thoughts that was going in my head while I sent those words and what his reaction must've been.
Suddenly, he started typing. My heart pace quickened and I became nervous. I waited patiently for the message, but he was typing for almost 5 minutes now. I frowned and waited for a longer time, suddenly he stopped typing. No message came. Then he went offline. I sighed, that was strange...
Just then, I heard the door bell ring. I logged out of my account and sprinted to the front door with the key in my hand.
Mom and Eva entered the house with grocery bags in their hands, I helped them with those into the kitchen.
"So how was the movie?" I asked mom.
"Oh, It was really nice actually"
Mom answered.
I nodded my head.
"So why did you get a detention?" She asked me angrily.
I shrugged "oh, it was because I laughed when Mrs.Lauren was scolding Daisy"
"Don't repeat it again or else I will have to ground you" she said and walked away.
I nodded and went up to my room and took out my biology text book to study for sometime since we have a test next week.
The day went off like that.
It was already time to sleep, so I arranged all my books and got ready to sleep but I heard a sound outside the window.
I looked outside to see a car enter into the neighbouring house yard where no one lived for quite a while.
I observed carefully since it was already dark and hard to see. A middle aged woman and man got out of the car. They both locked the car and opened the locked house.
I got away from my initial position and got down the stairs to my parent's room.
Mom was in front of the mirror while dad was on the phone.
"Mom, I think we have new neighbours" I said.
She looked at me through the mirror and smiled "yeah, I know. They came to look around their house last week when you were in school, the lady's name is Claire Cavellero and the man's name is Sebastian Cavellero, they even have 2 kids and the boy is in your age."
I was actually quite surprised, the name felt familiar, what if he went to the same school as me? What if I knew him? Well, I hope not.
I nodded and got back to my room and tried to get some sleep....
