Chapter 13
Emily's POV
...
It was already Saturday morning and I haven't completed studying for my biology test which was on Monday. I liked to study early in the morning and in the evening because it will be very easy to concentrate. I sighed and closed my book, feeling bored. I needed some break.
My eyes wandered around the room and fell on my laptop, a smile made its way on my face. I picked it up and set it on the bed next to me. I logged into Facebook.
The message notification caught my eye, my heartbeat increased as I opened it, me getting a message notification was really rare.
Adrian sent me a message,
'Do you read books?'
Ya right! how can someone ask such a question to this nerd? I adjusted my glasses.
I was also a little confused at this random question but answered it nonetheless.
'Yeah, I read books. Mostly fantasy and mystery/thriller. Why?'
I clicked send and instantly received a reply.
'Nothing in particular. Just wanted to know if you read Percy Jackson books'
I smiled and looked at the collection of books I had on my book shelf.
'Yeah, my most favourite ones of all time.'
'Really? Then do you have the 3rd book? "The battle of the labyrinth"?'
I smiled as my heartbeat quickened, why was he asking me this?
Wasn't it in that book where Annabeth kisses Percy for the first time? Oh My God!!! I was feeling lightheaded and a stupid smile made way on my face.
'Your just thinking too much into it!' My subconsciousness snapped at me and dragged me back to reality.
I typed a reply to him.
'Yeah! Do you want it?' I asked him.
'Yes, so can you give it to me during lunch, tomorrow?'
'Yeah! Sure! Bye!' I typed.
'Bye, and thanks.' He sent me.
I closed my laptop and picked up the book he asked for, then threw it on my bed after kissing it multiple times. I fell on my bed and looked at the book smiling.
"You are one lucky book!" I said and kissed it one last time before putting it inside my bag.
Then I groaned at my stupidity after I realised what I was doing. It's not like he asked me to go to homecoming with him!
Well....not yet....
Nah! Forget that!
Hmm...that reminds me of something that I forgot...what was it?
Yeah! I haven't selected a dress for homecoming yet.
"Mom! Can you please come here?" I called out for my mother.
"Yes, What do you want Emily?" She asked from down stairs.
"Can I call Alaska and Paige to our place?!" I yelled from my room.
"Ok! Just don't yell at me!" She screamed back.
I huffed "I didn't yell at you!" I answered back.
"Young lady, if you scream at me one more time, I'm going to wring your neck" she said standing at the entrance of my room in a deadly voice.
I gulped and shut my mouth.
...Emily's POV
...
Hey you! I hate you! Yes! You!" I said to him pouting.
Alaska signed to Paige that I was going mental. I rolled my eyes and continued glaring at the culprit.
However, his brown eyes didn't make it easy for me to continue. He jumped on me making me fall on to the floor laughing. He licked my cheeks making me cringe and push him away.
"Bruno! Get off of her. Stupid dog." Alaska rolled her eyes.
I sat up and petted him as I laughed.
We were currently at Paige's house to help her select a dress for homecoming, we decided to help each other out by choosing a dress and today we decided to help with Paige's look. Her German shepherd, Bruno stole my shoes, which he does very often.
I wiped my cheek and stood up after I gave a final pat on his head.
"Bruno, go to your room, now!" Paige ordered it with a serious look.
Bruno gave her the puppy dog eyes.
"That stopped working a year ago, now do what I said." She pointed towards the door.
He went into his room and laid down.
I looked at Alaska while holding in my laughter.
She looked like she might burst out laughing anytime. I giggled a little and that started our crazy laughing session right in the middle of Paige's huge living room.
"Okay girls! It's time to have some serious fun!" Paige tried to maintain a serious facade. I laughed at her face. She rolled her eyes and laughed with me.
"Okay. Come let's go!" She whined. Alaska and I followed her to her room.
I threw my bag on Paige's bed and jumped on her brown bean bag, making myself comfortable. Alaska jumped on her bed.
Paige's room was bigger than mine, her room had peach coloured walls and white furniture. It always looked like it was out of a catalogue. I envied her for that. Her room was this clean only because they have maids working in their house.
"Hey girls! When did you come?" A guy's voice said. I turned around and found Paige's elder brother at the door. I smiled and opened my mouth to answer.
"Can you give us some privacy? How more insensitive can you be? MOM! Tell Sam to get lost!" Paige stomped her foot angrily.
"Woah, woah! Calm down crazy sis, I'm not here for you. I'm only here to talk with your friends." He said defending himself.
She huffed and narrowed her eyes "exactly! That's exactly why I want you to get lost from here. I'm protecting my friends from you!" She smirked.
"What did you say?" He widened his eyes, he knocked her on her head and ran away.
She stomped her foot and ran behind him yelling about taking revenge.
"I'm 4 years elder than you, you can't win me, you brat!" He yelled back and ran down the stairs.
Alaska rolled her eyes and said "typical siblings".
I sighed and nodded.
"Ok! Let's get down to work!" Alaska said and got up on her feet and went into Paige's closet.
I followed her inside and took in her amazing closet. It was the thousandth time I was inside this but still it left me awestruck. There were always new additions to it every time I came inside. This time it was a whole new collection of limited edition Chanel perfumes.
I went and picked one up and smelled it. It smelled heavenly! I carefully put back the bottle from where it was knowing that these perfumes cost more that the cost of my entire closet.
I went to the dress section and rummaged through it.
"Do you think this will look good on her?" Alaska asked gaining my attention.
She held a black dress and looked at me waiting for my opinion.
I made a face and said "too classic, everyone's going to wear black."
"Huh! I've been cursed with the worst possible sibling in this entire world!" Paige entered the closet and sighed dramatically.
Alaska and I giggled at her overacting.
We finally decided on a short red dress which showed off Paige's shoulders. Even though she looked chubby, the dress really suited her.
We paired it up with black heels. They looked needle sharp but somehow Paige walked flawlessly and gracefully with them. I could never do that, if I was ever forced to wear something like that, then someone will definitely be hurt and I mean that in it's literal sense.
When I returned home, I had a huge surprise which I dreaded the moment I heard the news.
I had to welcome our new guests, great! Note the sarcasm.
"But mom!" I groaned.
"There is no way you are going to dodge this Emily! Your sister is out with her friends so you have to greet them and make them feel welcome in this neighbourhood." She said and shoved a box into my hands.
"Pft.. yeah with her friends.." I rolled my eyes knowing exactly where she was.
"Excuse me?" My mom turned to me from the stove.
I quickly shook my head "nothing mom!" I said.
"That's what I thought" she said and got back to work.
I sighed and got up to my room to at least make myself look presentable, that was the least I can do. I got out of my shorts and put on my black jeans and a yellow top. I decided on skipping any coat or jacket judging on the short distance.
I skipped down and opened the door to leave.
"Your going to need a coat" my mom said from the kitchen.
"Nah! I'm good!" I said and stepped out of the house.
How wrong I was! There were goosebumps on my arms and a shiver ran down my spine. I closed the door shut loudly and hurried back to my room.
I cursed and threw on my pale pink trench coat and buried one of my hands in the pockets and I held the box with the other.
Now I was ready to go.
I gulped and rang the bell on the front porch.
I was starting to think that this was a very bad idea as I wasn't very good with new people and starting and keeping up light conversations. Small talk was never my thing.
They were taking a lot of time to open and just as I was about to turn around on my heels and sprint, the door opened to reveal a tall woman. Probably in her mid forties.
She genuinely smiled. Her brown eyes looked very warm and inviting.
"Uh..hello! I'm Emily, your neighbour. My mom asked me to give this to you." I got all that out in one breath and mentioned to the box in my hands.
"Oh! My dear, you didn't have to do such a thing. Anyway come inside, it's freezing outside." She said and ushered me in.
I looked around the house and noticed that they haven't completed unpacking yet.
Only a few furniture was placed in the room.
This house looked a lot like our own except ours was filled with furniture and pictures on the walls.
"I totally forgot to introduce myself. I'm Claire Northwood. You can call me Claire." She held out a hand which I shook firmly and nodded.
"Mommy! I wanted that room! You can't give it to Denny!" A voice shouted from the top floor.
"Sophia! You need to come down right now." Mrs.Northwood, called out and took the box from me and placed it on the coffee table.
A tiny girl clutching a white bear in her arms, a complete contrast to her brown hair, came down and saw me with wide brown eyes.
She hid behind her mother's leg. I smiled at her shyness.
"Hey! Nice to meet you." I said and held out my hand bending down a little.
Her mother smiled and nudged her and said "go on Sofia, say hello to her."
She came to me and pulled down on my hand, I sat down and brought my face to her level and smiled.
"Okay, I'll leave you both to it. I'll just get something for you to drink" Mrs. Northwood said.
I shook my head and said "oh no Mrs.Northwood! That's alright." I said.
"Don't be silly, dear and I already told you to call me Claire! Mrs.Northwood makes me sound so old!" she said and left the room before I could object.
"You are really pretty" Sofia whispered to me, even thought it would not be considered as a whisper.
I chuckled "well, you are prettier than me." I said.
She shook her head and pouted. "No, you have blue eyes, but mine are brown."
I shook my head "well, then I think that your brown eyes are more prettier that my blue eyes." I said. She smiled at me and giggled.
"No it's not, but mine are prettier than Denny's lizard green eyes, they are hideous! Yucky!" She made a disgusted face.
I laughed along with her. Who was this Denny? Maybe her brother.
"You are really nice, will you be my best friend?" She asked.
"Oh actually no I can't" I said and saw that her face fell down.
"Why?" She asked me on the verge of tears.
"How can we become best friends if we don't know our names?" I asked and chuckled when she breathed a sigh of relief.
I held out my hand and said "I'm Emily, may I know what is your name?" I asked her smiling.
"My name is Sofia." She took my hand with both of hers and shook it.
"Nice to meet you Sofia, we are now best friends." I said and she giggled.
Just then the door opened, making both of our heads turn. I was completely caught by surprise when I saw the person who entered the room.
"Mom! I'm home! What's for din-" his sentence was cut short by himself when he saw me in the middle of his living room. He blinked numerous times as he was trying to comprehend what was going on and why a complete stranger was in the middle of his living room with his baby sister.
"You are finally back Denny! I want the bigger room! Oh and meet my new bestie!" Sofia babbled.
He simply ignored her words and continued to look at me in curiosity.
...
Hehehehe I just left you guy on a cliffhanger *evil laughter.
So who is it? Is it someone she already knows? Leave your guesses in the comments!
