Emily's POV
...
"Eva! What is wrong with you? You said that you will give me that dress!" I whined.
She stuck her tongue out at me.
I smirked "you do know that I have something to blackmail you with, right?"
"Oh please Emi! I don't even like that guy!" She said. I read her face and found that she was lying. Every time she lied, her slight smile revealed it but she always tries to cover it up with a grin.
My smirk only deepened, "so you mean, you don't want to go on that date of yours?" I asked her.
"Umm..yes..no! I didn't mean that! I want to go...but.." she mumbled.
I smiled in triumph and entered her closet. It was of the same size as mine but had more clothes. I spotted the familiar white dress hanging in between all the other clothes. I walked to it and picked it up, checking for any damage.
Eva had a frown on her face "I don't have any dress to wear for today's date" she said.
I thought about it for a while and said "this dress is too small for your waist so it won't fit you, but I have just the right dress for you, come on, follow me" i walked into my room with the dress in my hands and Eva on my trail.
I placed the white dress on my bed and walked into my closet and rummaged through the clothes I own. "Hm...red red red ha! found it!" I picked out a red lace dress ,it had sleeves till the elbow and ended just above the knee.
"Here you go!" I handed the dress to Eva. Her eyes shone bright and a smile made way on her face.
"Omg! Thank you so much Emi! I love you!" She hugged me tightly.
I smiled at her happiness. I used that dress only once, plus it was a little loose for me in the waist area. Eva looked ecstatic "Em! This dress looks much better than the white one! Thank you! But can you do me another help?" She pleaded me.
"Yeah? What is it?" I asked.
" Can you drop me off at the butterfly garden? Because my date can't pick me up here since mum is at home." She asked.
I smiled "Butterfly garden huh? I heard that it was one of the most romantic places in town."
She blushed slightly and whispered "yeah"
I giggled at her. Oh my god! This is just too cute!
"Ok, I'll make sure to drop you off there" I said and walked out of my closet.
I called Alaska and asked who was going to be our ride tonight. She said that it was going to be Paige's brother.
We all agreed yesterday that we will meet at mine at 5:00 pm. I checked the time, I had 2 hours left until they come here. It was best to complete my homework now rather than the very last minute. This time the math homework wasn't very hard, I managed to do quite a few sums correctly, but the rest were left unattended. I went to the kitchen to treat myself with a chocolate bar for getting a couple of answers right.
The fridge was stocked with fruits and vegetables, chocolate was nowhere to be found so I settled with some strawberries instead.
I really didn't look forward to this party, but I am doing this only for my friends. They were really excited after they heard the news. I feel bad for Natalie, her mom never let her go for any parties or even school trips. She was always restricted from everything. Her mom wanted her to always be a topper and score the highest marks. I am grateful that my mom isn't like that.
Arabella mention in the Facebook post that there wasn't going to be any alcohol in the party but I have a feeling that people were going to sneak some in. Of course they would! Who am I kidding?
Eva entered the room breaking my chain of thoughts, she had two pairs of shoes in her hands. One was red peep toes with 2 inch heels and the other was black gladiators with 3 inch heels.
She looked at me expecting me to tell which one will go better with the dress.
I nodded at the one in the right hand which was the black gladiator heels.
She smiled at me and mumbled a quick thank you and ran off upstairs.
I smiled at shook my head at her excitement. Of course, anyone would be excited on their first date. Good for her.
She was growing up faster than me, I felt a tiny pang of jealousy that some boy asked her out, but no one even looked at my direction.
I spent the rest of my time browsing the net and on YouTube. The celebrity gossips were just too amazing!
I heard the door bell ring, mom opened it.
It was Daisy and Alice. They greeted my mom. I introduced them to my mom and dragged them upstairs immediately. They had some bags with them which contained their dress, shoes and other accessories. We talked for sometime while waiting for the other 2 to show up. They came at 5:30 pm.
We all took turns in taking bath. We were short of time, so mom allowed us to use the guest bathroom too.
Once every one was dressed we started to style our hair, I wasn't supposed to wear make up remember? So I just side braided my hair and wore some silver studded earrings with a silver charm bracelet.
"I'm done!" I twirled around. I was surprised to see disapproved looks on my friends' faces.
"Girl! No way you are going to show up like that with that hairstyle of yours!" Paige exclaimed.
I frowned "why? What's wrong with this hairstyle?" I touched my braid consciously.
"Everything!" Alaska threw her hands exaggerating.
They pulled me and sat me down on my chair and undid the braid. Daisy combed my hair with a wooden comb removing any tangles.
Alaska started twisting my hair and put some hair pins in it. I felt them curl the ends of my hair.
I was totally clueless as to what they were doing. Finally, they nodded in approval. The only thing I was able to guess was it was a half up half down hairstyle.
I stood in front of my huge vanity mirror, some loose tendrils framed my face and made my cheekbones look defined. I tried to look at the backside but failed. Alice passed me a mirror. I took a closer look and realised that they twisted my hair on the top and let the hair flow freely in the bottom, the ends were softly curled. I nodded my head appreciating their help. They beamed in happiness.
We were all done and it was already 7 pm. Sean wasn't here to pick us up yet, so we waited in my room. I heard a knock on my door, Alice opened it to reveal Eva, she looked so grown up for her age, But the only problem was her hair. She too decided to braid it. My friends sighed while I chuckled. We sat her on the chair and worked on her blonde hair. My friends said that a waterfall braid would look good on her, and they were right. She looked fabulous without any make up.
We heard Sean's car outside my house. It was time to leave. I grabbed my clutch, which had some cash, breath mints, hair pins, chapstick, tissues and my emergency phone. I was not allowed to give anyone my number or call anyone other than my parents. So the only number in it was my mom's and dad's.
I saved Alaska's number in it and handed the phone to Eva but she refused.
"No Emily, I can't have it" she shook her head.
I pressed it into her hand "it's only for emergency purposes Eva, call Alaska's phone if something went wrong, ok?" She nodded and put it into her purse.
We went outside to see two cars waiting, one was Sean's Mercedes and the other was his father's BMW. We decided to split up, so Eva, Alaska and I were in Sean's car and the others went in the BMW.
"Hey Sean? Can you stop by the butterfly garden near the park? Eva's friend is waiting there." I said.
"Yeah sure, its on the way from here." He said.
As soon as the car started, loud music blasted from the speakers. We all cringed at the volume and Sean muttered an apology and turned the volume down.
We arrived at the butterfly garden.
Eva opened the door to get out, but I stopped her "have fun" I smiled at her.
She returned the smile and said "you too, but not too much" we laughed at that and said goodbye.
I turned to Alaska "are you nervous?" I asked her. Who am I kidding? Her hands were shaking!
"Of course, Emi! Who wouldn't be? I mean, it's our first party!" She laughed.
I laughed at her as I shook my head.
We arrived at Arabella's place after 5 minutes or so. Her house was a little smaller than mine but was over decorated with all that flower vases and flowery curtains. It had a little TOO much life to it. The music did not blast loudly like any other crazy senior parties, but it was audible from the outside.
I got out of the car to join my other friends. We were all really excited to go to our first ever party together. Paige fished out her compact mirror to check on her makeup. Daisy patted down her hair which had gotten a little disheveled during the car ride. Looking at her, I smothered down my hair too. I got out my chapstick and applied it on my lips.
I was surprised when I heard a squeal come from my side. It was Daisy.
I giggled "why are you so happy?"
She jumped up and down squealing, "look look look! Greyson came! Omg!" She fanned her self while blinking vigorously. I chuckled at her excitement.
Daisy has been crushing on Greyson for over 3 years now, he was one of the biggest jerks I've ever known and has a reputation. Once, he even swung a steel bottle on a guy's head making him bleed badly. It happened early in the morning when the school started, and to my displeasure it was the first thing I saw, the moment I entered the school.
I really don't know what she sees in him, it must be the bad boy facade. All the girls looovveee it! Ha! ya right!
We all entered the house, the lighting gave me a headache, it was one of those dim lights that doesn't serve a damn purpose.
I saw red cups everywhere, the contents must be alcoholic because of the way everyone was swaying. There were no seniors in the party, there were no seniors in any of the middle school parties mainly because of the stupid treaty they made. No high school students should show up in the middle school parties and vice versa.
I thought that it was a very stupid excuse of saying, we drink alcohol, you do too, but neither of us need to know it.
Someone grabbed me by my shoulder, I turned around to look at an overly dressed Arabella, she was wearing a shimmery silver tube dress which was a little age restricted, and on top of that she wore a pink fur scarf, and to top it all off she wore WAY too much make up. The glued on eyelashes looked clumped up with excessive mascara and the poor attempt of applying eyeshadow didn't help it either. She looked like a raccoon. My eyes widened taking in her appearance, I tried my best not to laugh but Alaska who was beside me burst out laughing. I looked at Alaska with wide eyes and told her to get it together but she noticed me trying to hold my laughter in and laughed more.
I turned to look at a furious Arabella, I frantically looked around for a distraction for her. I spotted her best friend Peyton in a corner.
"Hey Arabella! Nice party but I think your friend really needs you right now" as soon as she turned around, I pulled Alaska and fled from her sight.
"Huh! Girl! What were you doing there? Trying to get ourselves killed?" I shook Alaska.
Somehow her laughter died down but she started giggling.
"Did you-did you look at her?" She put a fist on her mouth trying to control her giggles.
I nodded my head, "this is why my mom never allows me to wear make up until I'm 16, Arabella looked like a complete Slut"
"Omg! How did her parents even allow her to do this?" Alaska asked.
"Knowing her parents, they mostly aren't in town and they most definitely don't care about what she wears" Daisy pipped in.
"Hey! Where did you guys go? We were looking around for the both of you." Paige said
"We had an encounter with the party host" Alaska chuckled.
"Yeah! You really HAVE to see her costume!" I added.
It was getting too stuffy inside the house, so I pushed myself through the crowd and made my way outside with Daisy, leaving Alaska, Paige and Alice to mingle with the others.
...Adrian's POV
...
This is some crazy shit! I never expected a party to be like this, considering that this was my first ever party. In England, it was very rare for people to ever throw parties in my neighbor hood and even if they do, my mom would never allow me to go. Here middle school kids have access to alcohol.
"Hey man! Here you go" Greyson handed me a red cup. There was some dark coloured liquid in it.
"What's this?" I asked.
"Alcohol, duh!" He answered nonchalantly.
I refused to drink it, but he insisted that it will help me loosen up.
I hesitantly lifted the cup to my lips and gulped down a tiny amount, it tasted very bitter and burned my throat, which made me cringe. The guys standing next to me laughed at my reaction.
I shook my head and pour the contents of the cup outside the window, into some bush. The taste was beyond horrible and I don't know how these people drink it like it's the water from the fountain of youth.
My family moved here from England after my Dad transferred her for work. It wasn't easy for me to suddenly move here. The school system was a bit different here and they gave more importance to sports, which was an advantage for me since I was going for athletics training in my previous school. However, I didn't have difficulty in making friends, the people were really friendly and treated me like one of them and I was grateful for that since I was worried sick about being a loner.
I don't know who host this party, but I've heard about her, people said that she was one of the popular girls in our grade. I wasn't a fan of all the high school stereotypes either, everyone was equal in my mind, everyone are people and we should learn to respect that, that's what my mother taught me.
I made my way to the kitchen to have a drink of water. The bitter aftertaste still lingered on my tongue. There were people everywhere, talking, laughing, dancing, making out, and god knows what else.
I filled a cup of water and drank it. I felt someone tap on my shoulder, I wiped my mouth and turned around to find a girl in a tight silver dress and a pink fur scarf. She smiled at me and fluttered her lashes, I smiled back at her.
"So... are you enjoying the party?" She asked.
I shrugged "yeah, it's pretty good, but I am not the right person for you to be asking this since it's my first ever party" I replied.
"Oh.. it's ok! Ah! I forgot to introduce myself, I'm Arabella" she grinned and extended a hand.
I took her hand in mine and shook it " Oh! Arabella! I've heard about you, you are the host of this party, right?"
She giggled and said "yeah"
I nodded and smiled "I'm Adrian Cavellero, nice to meet you"
"Oh! You are Adrian? you the famous new student in Oakleaf Academy" she gasped.
I scratched my neck "I wouldn't really use the word famous for describing me, but yeah."
"You are from England, right? Then why does your name sound like it's Spanish?" She wondered.
"That's because my Dad's Spanish and my Mother is British." I replied.
"Ok,.. do you like to go out with me?" She asked me.
My eyes bulged out of my sockets "what?" I shrieked.
She face palmed herself and shook her head "I'm sorry, that came out wrong. Would you like to get out of this place it's me?"
"Oh... yeah! Sure!" I laughed nervously and face palmed internally for thinking that way.
We made our way outside the building and near the small swing set in front of it.
"So, you play hockey, don't you?" I tried to start up a conversation.
"Yeah! how did you know?" She face me looking surprised.
I shrugged "I saw you guys play a match today, in school."
She huffed "oh that! Today I was having a severe migraine, so I wasn't able to do my best"
It wasn't very cold but the breeze was pleasant, the wind ruffled my hair.
"But it looked like an easy win for the other team, especially since the other team's captain was playing well, and the team work was excellent"
She made a sound of disagreement "Her? Nah! She's my junior, I just wanted to boost her confidence so that I let her win for once."
I shrugged "whatever"
