The bell rang and Mr. Silk hushed the class before beginning his lesion. I turned to face the board. The entire time I tried to figure out how to tell them without raising any suspicion. And by the end of class, I concluded that I’m doomed. When the twins confronted me, I opened my mouth to say something, only to close it a second later and run off to my next class. I managed to keep this act up until lunch where all eyes were on me. I kept my head down and sat at my usual table.

“Alright! That enough!” May said, slamming her fist against the table.

“Y-Yea!” Fang said a little frightened by his sister. He tried to give me the stink eye, but he’s just too adorable to be threatening. I sighed and motioned them to sit. They grabbed a chair eagerly and waited for my answer. I was about to tell them I had no other choice they would nag me forever if I didn’t. I opened my mouth for the hundredth time that day. Then something popped into my head and before I could stop myself, I started to speak.

“Axel is my neighbor.” I said with a surprising amount of confidence. My gut tightened. I lied to two of my best friends. It was small, but it still hurt to be lying. ‘But your keeping a huge secret from them and yet, you feel nothing.’ A voice in my head said. I contemplated for a second if there really was a different.

“Really?” Fang said pulling me from my thoughts. I nodded and I seemed to be off the hook for now. The rest of school seemed to fly by and before I knew it, the last bell rang. I said goodbye to my buddies and went to the barn. Rose came charging toward me the second she caught my scent. We played around for a little bit before I got serious. We had a lot of training to do in a short matter of time.

It felt good to place the black mask back on my face. I made me feel like I could become anyone and do almost anything. I smiled a bit knowing this, but still wanting to stay true to myself.

“Hey you, would you stop stalling and get over here.” My smile grew bigger and I ran over to Axel. He never approached me at school and people seemed stop caring on what was going on. “I have something for you.” He said pulling out a bow and a few arrows from a duffle bag.

“What’s this?” I said admiring the art work embedded in the wood.

“It’s my hunting gear. I thought I could be useful since the last race was a bloody mess.”

“Well in that case, wouldn’t a gun be more sufficient?”

“Yes, but then again what would I use?” He said taking out two 50 caliber handguns.

“Can’t we switch?” I said trying to give him back the bow. His face turned serious for a moment.

“No.” His muscles relaxed and he pushed the bow back towards me. “Besides I taught you how to use the bow.”

“One time doesn’t count!”

“You should be grateful for what I gave you. Now come on we’ve got to sign in.” He said turning a heel and walking the other way.

“But I missed almost every target!” I said running after him. We arrived at the check in booth and the man made me paranoid. He was a he seemed strong, but it could just be weight. He had an eye patch and a scar that cracked the side of his face. He wore snarl that seemed to be permanent.

“Signing up?” he said giving me a skeptical look. Axel stepped forward; his face was stiff.

“Yea.” He said standing a little taller.

“That’s a hundred pentts” He paused “each.” A creepy smile started to grow on his face.

“What!?! That’s outrages! C’mon Luna we’re going.” Axel said grabbing my hand and dragging it back toward our dragons.
