I was told to prepare James for delivery and I was glad I got a chance to say goodbye.
“What are they going to do to me, Sarah? Should I be worried?”A single tear rolled down my cheek. I knew exactly what they were going to do to him but I didn’t want to make him panic so I kept quiet. Then it hit me like a brick.
“James do you trust me?”
“Sarah...er...I...uhm.”
“Do you trust me?”
“You kept me alive so, yes, I trust you.”
“Look me in the eyes.” I moved closer to him. “You will remember me only when I tell you so. You will go with them and not be scared.”
I felt bad for compelling him but what would anyone else do in my situation? I just don’t want him to feel scared. I was sent here to infiltrate and destroy. I just never thought that James would be caught right in the middle of it.
“Can I tell you a secret before they take me?”
“Sure.”
“I hate the name James, I prefer Bucky.”
“Okay, Bucky, since we are being honest. I hate being...”
“Is he ready?’
“Yes professor.”
“Good. Take him down to the basement.” The guards did like they were instructed.
“So what am I going to do now professor?”
He let out a laugh that sends shivers down my spine. “My dear, now we are going to make more of the serum. Imagine a whole army of super soldiers that can do anything without hesitation.”
I move backwards until my back was against the table.
“I see professor.”
He moved closer to me. “I just need to do one more test.”
He placed a damp cloth on my arm. It burned like acid, that’s when I realized they knew.
“It cannot be.” I tried to fight my way out but was too weak. “Keep her down!”
The professor injected me with vervain and my body started to numb.
“Lock her up down stairs. Nobody talk to her. I will let the master know.”
They carried me down the stairs and threw me into the cell. I tried to push myself of the ground but was too weak. I lied there face down on the ground. Tears were flooding from my eyes.
Turn it off, Sarah. Turn it off. It will all be better if you just turned it off. No more pain of suffering. Just think about you, forget about others.
