Even if I wait forever

Chapter twenty four

"How Steve?"

We hear footsteps. We look up to see Sam approaching. "He's gonna be there, you know?"

"I know."

"Look, whoever he used to be, the guy he is now, I don't think he's the kind you save. He's the kind you stop."

I flinch at the word. Just thinking about someone hurting him scares me.

"I don't know if I could do that."

"Well, he might not give you a choice. He doesn't know you."

Steve looks over at me. "He will. Gear up, it's time."

"You gonna wear that?"

"No. If you're gonna fight a war, you gotta wear a uniform."

"Promise you won't hurt him."

Sam turns toward me. "I can't make that promise."

"I knew your father. He was a nice man. Duke Wilson right?"

"Actually he was my grandfather, how did you... you're her? The vampire he told me about?"

"He saved my life. Did he tell you that?"

"No, he didn't."

"I was locked in a cave, he was sent to rescue me. I guess if he didn't show courage to come get me, l would still be down there."

"He was a courageous man, unfortunately it got him killed very early. I guess that is why I joined the army."

"Sarah, you are on the helicopter with Fury. I need someone with him I trust."

"Off course. As long as I get to join in the fight."

"Hold your horses you'll get your hero moment."

I nod my head. "It's time for the last dose."

I made my way down toward Fury's room. I cut open my hand and let it drip into a cup. I hand the cup to Fury when Natasha entered the room in pain from her wound.

"Can I have a sip of that?"

"Sure." I held out my hand toward her and she took in as much as she could before the wound closed. "Was that enough?"

She flexes her arm. "This is much better. Thanks."

After the patients were taken care of I went to my room to get dressed in my uniform Maria gave to me.

"You look exactly the way you looked the day we met." I turn around and looked at Steve.

"So do you." I smile at him but I could see the fear in his eyes. He was afraid of what we are going to have to do to Bucky if this goes side ways.

Everyone is set on killing him and I am afraid that this is not going to end well.
