“Yes she is still alive.”
I was shocked she would literally be over 90 years old. “Can I go and see her?”
“I’ll take you to her if you want.”
“Thank you.”
We got in the car and drove to an old age home. Upon entering her room I was stunned with the sight before me. She was old and grey but still Peggy. She is beautiful.
I leaned closer to Steve. “Even in old age I envy her.”
“She is beautiful.”
It was plastered so clearly over his face. He loved her, he loved her so much. I saw it the day he came into her office, the day I went into her office to receive my first mission. He loved Peggy.
“Oh my. Sarah is that you?”
“Hi Peggy.” I placed my hand over hers.
“Steve, where did you find her?” She looked back up at me. “I am so glad you are okay.”
“Me too, Agent Carter.”
I took a seat at her bedside. Steve took the seat closer to her. He looked at her pictures.
“You should be proud of yourself Peggy.”
She averted her eyes from the pictures to Steve. “I have lived a life. My only regret is that you didn’t get to live yours.” His eyes fell with disappointment. “What is it?”
“For as long as I can remember I just wanted to do what was right. I guess I’m not quite sure what that is anymore. And I thought I could throw myself back in and follow orders, serve. It’s just not the same.”She chuckles. “You’re always so dramatic. Look, you saved the world. We rather... mucked it up.”
“You didn’t. Knowing that you helped found SHIELD is half the reason I stay.”
She takes Steve’s hand. “The world has changed and none of us can go back. All we can do is out best, and sometimes the best that we can do is start over.” She started coughing and I got up and made my way to the door. Seeing them together made me miss him. I walked out the door and stood with my back against the wall next to the door.
Steve exit the room and came to a standstill next to me. “War ruined us all Sarah. We both have lost so much.”
“You know that vampires have a switch.”“What switch?”
“I have a switch to turn off my emotions. I can make all my pain and suffering go away.”
“Why don’t you?”
“Because my emotions are the only thing that makes everything real.” I started sobbing. “Because without my emotions everything just disappears.”
“Sarah.” He folds his arms around me. “I have news. I found a witch that can help you.”
“Really?”
“Yes, come I’ll take you.”
