"Be careful, it's hot," Hercules said as he handed a cup of tea to James, who took it gratefully, smiling up at the larger man. The two had found their way to the living room, where Hercules put a movie in, a rom-com James liked. He sat next to James on the couch, absentmindedly wrapping his arm around the smaller man's shoulders. James hummed in content, leaning into Hercules' chest. The two did this often, it was a platonic thing, though Hercules had a burning crush on James. "You doing okay?" Hercules asked as the commercials started to play.
"I'm doing fine," James said, glancing at Hercules, who gave him an uneasy look. "Hercie, I'm okay. I've just been thinking about him... A lot."
"What're you going to do?" Hercules asked, running his hands through James' hair. "Are you going to dump him or try to fix things?" James tensed, starting to shake in Hercules' arms, making the bigger man panic slightly. "Hey, hey, it's okay, Jem. Don't worry about it right now. You can decide later," Hercules rubbed James' back, trying to get him to calm down.
James jumped at the sound of a knock at the door. "Are you expecting someone, Herc?" James asked, looking at Hercules in confusion.
"No," Hercules replied, leaving James to get the door. Thomas stood behind it, looking nervous and fidgety. "Come back later," Herc said in a monotone voice, shutting the door, well, trying to shut the door. Thomas' foot got in the way.
"Please just let me talk to him," Thomas pleaded, holding the door open. "Please?"
"I don't think he wants to see you right now. Like I said, come back later," Hercules felt a hand on his shoulder, making him turn. James was looking up at him, giving Hercules a slight nod. "Are you sure? You don't have to talk to him if you don't want to. I'm sure Thomas would have the decency to understand," Hercules shot a pointed glare at Thomas.
"I'm sure, Hercules," James said, giving the taller man a small smile. James turned to Thomas, taking a deep breath. "Thomas, I've wanted to break up with you for a long time."
"What?" Thomas' eyebrows furrowed in confusion. "Jemmy, I thought we were doing good. Well, until today that is..."
"You're in love with Alexander," James said, biting his lip. "I'm not blind Thomas, I've known ever since I met Alex that you had fallen for him, and don't try to deny it, because I know you," Thomas stared at the ground, embarrassed. "And what you did today is something I can't bring myself to just forgive and forget. Yes, I will forgive you, but we won't be the same. I can't be with you Thomas. Especially when there's someone else my heart belongs to."
"Who?" Thomas asked, a hint of anger flickering in his eyes. "Baby please, we can work this out," Thomas reached to grab James' hand, intertwining their fingers.
"Don't touch him," Hercules growled, stepping in front of James. Thomas retracted his hands, scared Hercules would rip him to shreds, which he was quite capable of doing. "The least you could do is let him go." James wanted to interject, but he couldn't deny he just wanted Thomas to leave. He tugged at Hercules' sleeve, giving him a look, and almost as he read James' mind, Herc nodded. "You should leave."
"You want me to?" Thomas asked, the question directed at James, who nodded, hiding behind Hercules. "Okay, I accept your decision. I love you James," Thomas waited for a few seconds to see if James would say it back but James didn't, he just clung to Hercules. "Bye," Thomas said before leaving, striding down the hallway. Hercules shut the door before turning to James, giving him a proud smile.
"You did good," James shrugged, letting Hercules wrap his arms around him. "I'm serious, Jem. That must've took a lot of courage."
"Now he hates me," James mumbled, looking up at Herc. "I don't want him to hate me. I just didn't want to be with him anymore. Do you think he'll stay mad at me forever?" Hercules chuckled slightly, shaking his head.
"He doesn't hate you, and he wouldn't stay mad at you anyways, he can't," Hercules smiled, trying to get James to smile back. "So, who's the guy your heart belongs to?" Hercules asked, feeling his heart drop slightly, knowing it wasn't him. James buried his blushing face in Hercules' chest, shaking his head. "Come on, tell me. I'm your best friend."
"You," James mumbled, the word slightly muffled.
"Me?" Hercules pulled away from James, staring at the smaller man with wide eyes. James nodded, looking like he was on the verge of tears. "Jem, oh my god I'm sorry, don't cry, please don't cry," Hercules lifted James into his arms, carrying him back to the couch. "I like you too, Jemmy James," Hercules chuckled, cupping James' cheek with his hand. James' face flushed crimson, before he covered it with his hands. "Hey, don't hide from me," Hercules pouted, pulling James' hands away. "I really like you, Maddie."
James blinked, staring up at Hercules with starry eyes, his breath hitched in his throat as Hercules pecked his nose.
"We can talk about this tomorrow, okay? I really don't want you to make any decisions you'll regret, I mean you just dumped Thomas. You need a little time, sweetheart," Hercules said gently.
"But Hercie, I don't need any time," James pouted, leaning into the crook of Hercules' neck, cuddling into him.
Hercules chuckled, hugging James tighter. "Patience Jemmy, patience."
