*Before Alex's Call*

Ellie watched as Max searched for Alex's contact in her phone. "Why is he smiling? Did he just... bite his lip? Why the hell...?" He cleared his throat, making Ellie jump. "Okay, ready?"

Max sat close to her on the edge of the bed and wrapped his arm around her. That happy, warm feeling made its way through Ellie's body. "Block him, Elle." She nodded and took the phone from his hand.

"Block Contact" was written in bold, red text. Max tightened his grip on the small of her back as Ellie tapped the button. He pulled her closer and kissed her on the cheek. She gave him a small smile and wiped her sweaty palms on her jeans. "Okay, I'm taking a shower," she announced, handing him her phone.

Max fell back onto the bed and let out a breath as he landed. "Okay," he replied, laying her phone beside him and grabbing the TV remote from the bedside table. It sat on a coaster, along with a couple brochures, and an 80's-style hotel phone. "Good luck finding a decent channel on there," Ellie joked, nodding towards a flatscreen TV that sat on a dresser across the room.

Max rolled his eyes and smiled. "Yeah, tell me about it." Ellie chuckled and walked over to her suitcase in same blue chair from before. She pulled out an old t-shirt and her makeup bag.

"Okay... it's fine. Who needs hot water? Cold water is refreshing, right? And I don't have to use conditioner. Just shampoo is fine too. At least there are towels... well, a towel. I'll be fine. Suck it up, Elle."

Ellie dried off and threw on her t-shirt and underwear. "Should I wear shorts? Did I even bring any? I didn't know I was going to be sharing a bed," she thought crossly. "Whatever... it's not like he hasn't slept with a girl before."

Ellie opened the bathroom door and blinked as her eyes adjusted to the darkness. The TV and lamps were off, and the room was pitch black. "Max," she whispered. "Turn on the damn light." Ellie took a few steps forward and shrieked as she tripped over one of Max's shoes. She stumbled and fell on the bed... on Max.

"Woah, I thought we talked about this," he joked in a groggy, "you just woke me up" voice.
"Why is that hot, though," Ellie thought, biting her lip to keep from smiling. Their faces were inches apart. "Why," she paused, moving closer, "did you leave your shoes right there, for everybody to trip over."

Max smirked and moved even closer. He touched her nose with his. Ellie could feel his warm breath on her lips. "Sorry," he whispered in a deep voice.

Max could feel his heart beating in his chest. Ellie leaned forward, close enough to kiss him.
She put her hand on his chest and looked down. "He's not wearing a shirt. Holy shit." Max noticed her hesitation and pushed a few stands of hair behind her ear.

He leaned down to catch her gaze. "Hey," he started. Ellie bit her lip, worrying about what he would say. "You never told me what you and Nev were laughing about earlier... and in the airport." Ellie pulled away, threw back her head, and laughed. "Oh, this is so not the time!" She chuckled to herself again and shook her head, leaning away from him.
