CHAPTER 8:
I was waiting for the call from the job I had applied to yesterday. They said they would call me back today... nothing. I decided to go on my laptop to pass time. I scrolled through my Instagram- I hadn't posted in awhile. My most recent post was from my best friend's birthday and we went to New York City. All my old friends were posting stuff about their summer vacations and all hanging out together. It made me sad just looking at the pictures of them.
My phone started ringing.
"Hello?" I asked.
"Is this Ava?" A man asked. His voice was familiar from yesterday when I was interviewed.
"Yes, this is she." I said, trying to act professional.
"Hello, this is Richard Dexter from Richie's- the restaurant you applied to yesterday," he explained.
"Thank you for calling," I replied politely.
"No problem. I just wanted to inform you that you are hired. When can you start?" He asked. I quietly jumped up and down on my bed.
"Anytime you need me," I relaxed again.
"Great, is tomorrow good for you?" He asked.
"Yes, tomorrow is fine," I smiled. I can't believe I finally got a job.
"Great, be here by 6:45 for you 7-9 shift," he said very professionally.
"Thank you Mr. Dexter," I said happily.
"Like I said, no problem. And please- call me Richie," with that, he hung up. I dropped my phone and jumped up and down. I was acting like a child right now, but I was super excited. I went downstairs to tell my dad the good news. When I got downstairs, my dad was on the phone, smiling at the person he was talking to- even though they couldn't see him. My dad saw me walk in and quickly said good-bye to his friend.
He turned to me. "What's up, kiddo?"
I scrunched up my nose, he never calls me that. "I got a job!" I squealed. My dad got up and hugged me.
"Wow, congrats, honey. I'm so proud!" He smiled. "I knew you could do it. So, what's the job?"
'I'm working at Richie's in town as a waitress."
"The lakeside restaurant?" My dad asked, reading his phone as a message just popped up.
"Yup! Plus I get to keep all tips I make," I explained. My dad nodded.
"So honey," He changed the topic. "I am going to be meeting with a client from work. We are supposed to be eating dinner at her house, now she wants me to bring you and Connor along. I promise we are not dating or doing anything more than work, but would you like to come with me?"
I have to admit, I am a little surprised at my saying that. I was totally not expecting that! "Um, sure, dad, I guess."
My dad smiled again. "Great, go upstairs and get changed. We'll leave in twenty minutes. I already talked to your brother."
I looked down at my outfit, and ran back upstairs. Although I had tons of clothes, I wanted to look perfect, and I couldn't find anything decent to wear.
Finally, I just decided on a thigh-length, black pencil skirt and a black, white and yellow tank top. Then, I strapped on some black sandals and curled my hair. The last thing I did was apply a little makeup and put everything I might need into my black Michael Kors purse with gold zippers.
Just in time too because just as I was applying one final layer of lip gloss, my dad called me downstairs. "Coming!" I hollered back. Grabbing my phone off the bed, I rushed downstairs.
