Chapter 12:

It was a week since I slept over at Riley's house. I sat in the hospital on a Monday morning, a place I hoped I'd never be again. Connor sat in my lap, curled into my chest. I was in my pajamas as we'd been here since last night.

FLASBACK 16 hours ago:

I was just finishing up my English homework and getting up to shower when my dad came up to my bedroom.

"Hey Aves, I'm going out for the night, I'll be home by eleven," He smiled and kissed my forehead before heading back downstairs.

I went into the shower and was sitting on my bed in my pajamas when Nick called.

"Hey gorgeous," he said when I picked up the phone.

I giggled. "Hey Nick." We had finally went on that date yesterday and it was so romantic. After the dinner, we went out for ice cream and then hung out at his place until midnight. I still had butterflies in my stomach from the way we kissed.

"Do you wanna see a movie tonight?" God, his voice is so amazing, I could listen to him talk for hours, I thought to myself.

"Ugh," I groaned. "I can't, my dad is out tonight and I have to stay home to watch Connor."

"Awe," Nick fake sniffled into the phone, causing me to giggle again. "Well, I had so much fun last night, I'm already missing you like crazy."

"Me too," I sighed.

"I feel like our dates are so spread out now-a-days, I mean we almost broke up because of it," I could hear a sense of  annoyance in his voice.

"I know, I know. But everything is so crazy lately. Did you know it's really hectic moving to a new school when you're already a senior in high school? The school doesn't really know my grades too well and there's like this problem transferring my records. Oh, and they can't give me any information on colleges until the first semester is over and then I'll only have half a semester to complete my college essays and send them in and wait for the acceptances," I explained.

I could hear Nick laughing. "What's so funny?!" I asked.

"Nothing, you're just super cute when you get all...mmm, exasperated," Nick chuckled again.

I couldn't help but giggle, again. "Well, thank you," I smiled even though he couldn't see me.

"Look, I really have to go, I have to finish up grading these couple papers and everything. I'll text you later," Nick promised.

"Aw, alright. Bye," I sighed.

"I love you," Nick replied.

"I love you too," I said, but he had already hung up the phone. I hung up the phone and grabbed my laptop off the desk. I checked my school email to see if my Science teacher had emailed me about the project that was due next week.

My phone rang again, and I picked it up quickly, expecting it to be Nick. But, it wasn't. It was my dad.

"Hey dad," I said.

"Oh so, sorry," a woman replied.

"Um, wait who is this?" I replied nervously.

"This is St. Ann's Hospital. We are looking for a family member of... Paul, uh, Margarets. His phone was with him on the scene of the accident and we called this number because there was a heart next to your name. I am so sorry, we have no files for him, the only way we could figure out his name was from his liscense which he kept in his pocket. May I please have your mother's number? I'll just cop-" The woman said.
