CHAPTER 9:

My leg's shook in the freezing cold air. I was wearing shorts and it was so windy outside, i had to force my newly curled hair into a tight bun. Work was fun, if you didn't count the fact that every hour, on the hour, I had to clean the bathrooms. I am a waitress, but i only get the tables that the good waiter's don't want. To make this job worse, they ran out of my size uniform, so i have a shirt that's too big on me and the jeans were so baggy & long that I was just told to wear my shorts.

I sighed as I picked up the dirty sauce napkin off the ground. My shift was over in ten minutes and I couldn't wait. I worked mostly outside at the 'Outdoor Bar & Grill' portion of the restaurant. In addition, I have two outside tables. This other waitress, Jessica, told me that the first week is the hardest, but then everyone treats you better. I couldn't wait for this week to be over. In the next seven days, I have to work four days. School starts this Monday, which is in two days, so I have all after school shifts, 7-9.

My phone vibrated from my back pocket. I looked around to make sure no one was watching and pulled it out.

There was no response from Nick after that. I slid my phone into my shorts as Richie came outside. He walked over to me and leaned on the counter.

"You did a great job today," Richie smiled.

"Thank you, I had a great time," I smiled back.

"I'm sorry I couldn't be outside with you today, I had some trouble with one of the stoves in the kitchen and blak blah blah. Anyways, I hope Jessica was kind to you today and you learned a lot from her training," Richie replied.

"Jessica is really nice," I nodded.

"Yeah, she's my niece. I usually only hire people from the family, but you were a really sweet girl and we were in desperate need of another set of hands around here," Richie chuckled.

"Thank you so much for this opportunity," I replied.

"Of course, I'm a big family man and you remind me of my oldest daughter," Richie wiped a little water off the counter. "Anyways, the reason I came out here is because I saw you shivering in these cold winds and wanted to tell you that I'll finish up here."

"Are you sure? I get off in ten minutes, I can clean this place up," I placed a dirty class into the sink.

"No, no, I insist. It's fine, you were wonderful today," Richie insisted.

"Thank you so much, I'll see you tomorrow for my next shift," I said, untying the apron from my waist.

Richie waved goodbye as I headed to my car. When I was driving home, it started to rain, it seemed like a big storm was coming. I was grateful that I wasnt still outside cleaning through this nasty weather.

Nick was coming over tonight to hang out and help me finish up my AP English paper that I have to complete as a summer assignment. I haven't seen him at all today and I'm excited for him to come over for the first time!
