Lee's conference was cut short that day to give the participants the time to honour their dead. Lee took that chance to call Virgie and learned that the volunteers from medical mission will have lunch with the mayor today; therefore, she doesn't' have to cook for the guests.
It was mid afternoon when Clarisse and Rae were finally dropped-off. "I'm sorry Rae but I can't go out in the sun. Maybe later during sunset?" Rae shook her head with a smile on her face and left on her own to explore the farm.
The 2 hectare farm was planted with vegetables, shrubs, trees and flowering plants. She noticed a group of men farther away tending some plants. They saw her and waved their hands. She waved back as she walked northeast of the farm. She saw the yellow flowers from afar... a field of yellow blossoms.
Rae stopped in her tracks and closed her eyes.
" I've seen this before. But how? Maybe in one of the movies I watched in the past?" Rae shook her head. She was not convinced at all but cannot remember where it was. She decided to continue walking till she reached the yellow patch as Virgie called it.
She admired the tall sunflowers that looked like yellow umbrellas. For the first time in so many years, Rae smiled and laughed.
She was seated on a flat rock under the giant sunflower enjoying the buzzing of the bees way up high. She reached out for one flower and cut the stem with a sharp edge stone she found while walking. " I knew you'll come in handy," she said as she returns to her cottage with a giant sunflower on her hand.
Tomorrow is the last day of their mission. How time flies!
Rae fall asleep the moment the breeze touched her cheeks.
