Chapter 8: Truth

Alice this looks incredible". Bella exclaimed as we arrived quite early to the Cullen's house. I remember Bella had told me tang their house was grand, but I never imagined grand grand. It was like something out of a modern day fairytale.
    "Bella's right". I said in awe. "It's amazing how you set this all up".
Alice smiled and reached for my hand.
   "What's amazing is how Bella still hasn't introduced me to her cousin". Bella faked a smile and shrugged.
     "Sorry Alice". She apologized. "Hannah this is Alice. Jasper and Edwards adoptive sister". Bella introduced her. Alice beamed and held out her hand for me. I took it and just like with both her brothers her hand was ice cold.
    "I'm so glad to finally meet you Hannah. Jasper won't stop talking about you". She informed me. I looked over at me cousin who just smiled.
    "He talks about me?"
Alice let out a light laugh. "All the time. It seems he really likes-"
     "Alice it's quite rude to talk about someone when their not in the room". Jasper smirked as he descended the stairwell. Alice rolled her honey colored eyes at her brother.
    "Funny. You seem to do it all the time". She said glaring at him in a friendly way. Bella smiled and grabbed Alice hand. Pulling her out of the room and leaving me alone with Jasper. Jasper smiled at me as he came over. Then he extended his arm for me to take. I hesitated for a moment and glanced up at him.
    "I want to show you something Hannah".
I gulped back my nerves and let out a sigh. Then I reached my hand out and took his in mine. He then pulled me lightly out to the wooden balcony that I had seen when Bella and I had pulled up to their house.
   As he opened the doors I could see that the stars were shining so brightly against the night time sky.
Being up this high getting to see an ocean of pine trees with the glittering sky made my heart skip a beat. It was so gorgeous up here. I went over to the edge and looked over.
     "Jasper this view it's amazing". I exclaimed trying to take it all in.
    "Yes it quite is isn't it". He said as I twirled around to find him looking at me. He smiled at walked over next to me. Gazing at the stars in the sky.
     "I come out here when I need to clear my head". He said. "Which is a lot more often since I meant you Hannah"
Since he meant me? He came out here to think about me? Me?! I took a step off to the other side.
    "Jasper I-"
    "I can't get you out of my head, Hannah". He admitted. My eyes widened at his sudden confession.
     "...you can't? I don't-"
Jasper's eyes meant mine. "Remember when you asked me how I knew that you were not going to get so nervous walking up on that stage for graduation?"
    "I do..."
What was he getting at all of as sudden.
    "What if I said that I could make you feel less nervous at times?"
I raised an eyebrow at him.
     "I would say you just that affect on people I guess". I said.
Jasper looked away from me. "It's more then that, Hannah".
I let out a sigh and crossed my arms over my chest.
    "Your being pretty vague here Jasper. There's something that your not telling. Isn't there?"
He didn't have to answer that. From his body movements and changing of subjects I could tell that something was off about him.
His whole family seemed too good to be true, but I couldn't figure it out all on my own. He needed to give me a hint or just flat out tell me the truth.
    "My family...were different".
    "Jasper nobodies family is perfect. I of all people know that-"
Jasper shook his head and moved away from me.
     "Hannah my family- were monsters".
I rolled my eyes.
     "Not you too". I groaned. Was he really trying to side with Jacob now. I didn't need this from him.
     "Hannah, I-"
     "Jacob already tried to warn me about you and I didn't listen to him and I won't listen to you either. I'm not staying away from you!" I shouted at him.
     "Hannah I don't want you to stay away". My cheeks flashed a shade of deep red.
He wanted me to stay...
    "Then why-"
   "Because Hannah". Jasper looked at me with his dark yellow eyes. "My family..were vampires".

I just stared at Jasper for a few moments before letting a nervous laugh escape my mouth. Then I glared up at Jasper.
    "Vampire?" I said firm. "How stupid do you think I am, Jasper?"
Jasper did not smile or laugh with me.
    "I'm serious, Hannah". Jasper stated just before he moved in closer to me. He reached for a piece of my hair and then he jus disappeared. He was here one minute then gone the next.
What the hell? Nobody could move that fast ever. It was like he was the flash....but the flash wasn't real and yet.....
    "Hannah". Jasper was instantly back at my side in a heartbeat after him vanishing.
    "What-" I couldn't breath. "Nobody is that fast and is still-"
     "Human.."
Oh my god. Jasper was right. He wasn't human, but a vampire....? That seemed so far fetched.
    "Do you have-"
Without even finishing my sentence Jasper opened his mouth wide and revealed to me a set of sharp fangs piercing out from the top of his mouth.
Jasper was a vampire. Jasper Hale and his family were a bunch of vampires.
I knew what my next question was going to be.
     "That means you drink blood..."
Jasper stepped closer to me. Closing the gap between us even more.
    "We don't drink human blood, Hannah. We only drink animal blood. Carlisle calls us vegetarians. It's our own person little joke". Jasper explained to me. When he said that his family didn't drink human blood my body let lose and I knew that he wasn't going to hurt me at all.
     "Vegetarians? Really?" I joked while smirking at him.
     "It was more Emmett's idea to call us that then Carlisle". Jasper added. I giggled making Jasper smile.
     "Noted".
Jasper stepped in even closer and reached out for my hand.
     "Hannah I would never do anything to hurt you. I can promise you that".
     "I know". He was telling me the truth and I knew that. Jasper cared about me....as much as I cared about him I wasn't sure of that fact yet.
      "I have just one more question".
Jasper nodded his head.
     "Does Bella know about you guys?" I asked Jasper as he led us back into the party that was beginning to start. Angela waved to me and as she looked from me to Jasper she smirked and winked. I blushed and looked the other way.
     "Yes". Jasper replied. "She figured it out within a few months of arriving in Forks. Your cousin is very persistent".
I rolled my eyes and glanced over at my cousin. "You have no idea".
     "Jacob just arrived". Jasper with hesitation put his hand on my waist making me jump at his touch.
     "Jasper what-"
     "Hello Jacob". Jasper greeted Jacob as he and what must have been two of his friends approached us. Jacob glared at Jasper and looked back at me.
      "Congratulations again Hannah". I faked a smile at Jake. I was still angry at him for our fight this morning, but I still wanted to see him.
     "Thanks Jake". I said while walking away from him. While I still wanted to see him I wasn't in the mode for him to start telling me what to do again.
     "Hannah wait!" Jacob grabbed onto my arm. "I'm want to apologize-"
     "Jake I need some time. Why don't you go see Bella".
     "I-"
Jasper shoved himself in between me and Jake without a second thought.
     "I think you should listen to her Jacob". Jasper stated. Jacob glared at Jasper.
     "I don't take orders from you blood-"
I stepped in and rested my hand on Jacobs arm. "That's enough. Look Jake if you can't accept the fact that Jasper is my friend then maybe you should just go". I lifted my hand from his shoulder. Then I grabbed Jasper's arm and pulled us both away before Jacob could utter another word.
    "I'm sorry about Jacob". I said finally letting go of his hand.
    "Hannah you don't have to apologize for that- for his behavior".
I shook my head as I tried to calm myself down. And within a few minutes I felt a rush of calm overcome me. I glanced up at Jasper.
    "What did you just do?"
Jasper smiled. "I used my gift".
    "Gift?" I said raising an eyebrow at him.
    "When some of us are turned we develop a gift or an ability". He explained.
     "Like you can control stuff?"
Jasper reached for my hand. "In some cases yes. Edward can read minds. See what others are thinking about while Alice can see the future. Even things are not set in stone yet".
Wow. Real life vampires were completely different from the ones in books and movies. I glanced up at Jasper.
    "And yours?"
He smirked making me blush. "I can influence people's emotions. Give them certain emotions or take certain ones away".
I couldn't believe it. He was toying with my emotions....
     "You-
He sighed. "I did not mean to upset you Hannah. I only ever gave you good emotions. You told me that you did not sleep well when you were stressed so I took that pain away and replaced it with something calming".
He...Jasper was helping me. He was only using his gift to make sure that I was taken cared of. I couldn't believe this.
He really did care about me...wait did that mean..
     "Wait then at graduation when I went from being hopelessly nervous to calm as can be that was you doing that?"
Jasper nodded his head.
    "I wanted to ease your nerves".
I couldn't stop the tears from leaking out or the smile that appeared on my face. Just as I was about to thank him Bella knocked on the screen door.
    "Carlisle wants to see us". Bella said looking from Jasper to me.
    "Is everything alright?" Jasper asked my cousin. Bella continued to look at me while biting her lip.
    "I'm not sure I-"
    "It's okay Bella". Jasper said. "I'll take Hannah home if you don't mind"
     "...okay no problem"
