Chapter Three
"That's the guest's room," Jillian pointed to a room with an open door and plenty of people inside. These people are just everywhere.
In the last fifteen minutes, Jillian has shown me all the rooms in the ground and second floor, and she also showed me the pool, although throughout the tour guide, my attention was more on her than her house.
"And there's only one last room you need to see," Jillian began to walk into a different hallway, to our right. This one is empty and shorter than the one we were in. The walls were painted of pink lines before a plain white background. This hallway had no doors. I wonder if Jillian made a wrong turn.
"Um, Jillian?" I say.
Jillian smiles at me and replies, "You can call me Jill. What is it?"
"This hallway...it has no doors."
She smiles again, but wider, almost to a laugh, then says, "Oh, it does. Wait," She stops in front of the left side of the hallway, to a wall. "Go ahead."
Go ahead? I don't know what she means by that. I see nothing. She faces me, "You don't want to come in first?"
"Uh...how?"
"Can't you see it?" She asks me.
"Yeah, no. Not really, I don't. Is there something there?"
"Here," She lays her hand on the wall and pushed lightly. The wall opened. Wait, no, a door opened. Okay, I'm confused. Oh, I get it now. A door on the wall opened. I did not see that coming. Seriously, it's like the door was invisible. Only it wasn't.
As I stared at the wall, looking more closely, I realized that the door blended into the wall, hiding it's small hinges in the dark, thick pink lines. The door goes all the way to the top of the wall and ends where the wall meets with the ceiling. No wonder I didn't see it.
I looked beyond the door, into a room. I stepped inside and scanned the room, realizing it was bigger than it looked like from the outside. And as I surveyed the whole room, I became aware that this must be Jillian- I mean Jill's room.
The room had a white queen sized bed with a pink comforter and two pink pillows. The floor was carpeted with a fuzzy white carpet. At the corner sat a long white desk with a Mac laptop resting upon it, some notebooks, a pen holder and a pink desk lamp. Opposite to where I was standing, on the other side of the room, was a set of transparent, crystal sliding doors that were open. The pink silk curtains were tied to the sides to reveal the bright night sky beyond the marble terrace right outside the sliding doors. It's like this room has been invaded by pink and white. I looked to my side to see a white wooden door. "What's inside that door?" I poined to it. Jillian- No, I mean Jill. Jill. I have to get used to that.
Jill closes the door and walks over to me, "That's just my walk-in closet."
She even has a walk-in closet. I look around and notice another door on the other side of the room. "Um, how 'bout that one?" I say, raising my finger to point to another door.
"That's my bathroom," She says. I nod my head.
"So, uh, you hid your door," I say, my attention returning to the camouflaged door.
"Yeah. I just....I kind of like it better that way. No one except my bestfriends, parents and my dog has entered my room since no one else can find it. It makes my room more private to strangers who party here."
