CHAPTER 24

NORMANI'S POV.

"I think that we should all have some one on one time with Avery..." Lauren said trailing of at the end.

"I think that would be good" Mila said looking down for a moment then looking back up sadly.

"Normani, you should start" Ally said smiling sadly at me

"Why me?" I asked surprised

"Your closest to the door" Ally said

"Really Ally? Really?" I said rolling my eyes and walking into Avery's room.

She was lying in the bed completely still which was very odd for me since Avery is one of those people who are always always moving. I pulled up a chair and sat by her bed and took her hand and put it in my lap.

"I'm sorry Avery... I should've stopped you from running out of the house. Everyone was freaking out and I didn't think much of it... You have to live for your mom and everyone else, Avery. I remember one of the first conversations we had... You really are a weird girl, Avery.

FLASHBACK

I was in the kitchen getting a soda when I heard someone come in. Thinking it was Dinah I turned around and found Avery, one of the young girls we are taking care of standing there.

"Oh... hey Avery... what's up?" I asked

"The sky" She said looking up

"Umm... I mean what are you doing in the kitchen" I said confused

"I wanted to talk to you" Avery said taking a seat by me.

"Alright... about what?" I said even more confused

"Is it weird if I don't know how much wood a woodchuck would chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?" She asked looking at me seriously

I looked at her moment possessing what she had just said then broke out laughing.

"Avery, you know that that's not meant to be taken seriously right?" I asked between laughter.

"No... I thought that was a serious question" she said frowning

I started laughing impossibly hard clutching my stomach in pain from laughing so hard. Avery crossed her arms and pouted frowning. When I had finally calmed down I looked up and saw she frowning.

"Awww Avery it's ok I just always thought everyone knew that that wasn't real" I said

"I did" she said sadly

"Awww come here." I said opening my arms for her to hug me. Her eyes brightened and she ran over and hugged me. One thing I learned from living with Avery is that she loved hugs.

FLASHBACK OVER

"Stay strong Avery... Camila needs you... I need you.... everyone needs you...." I said sadly getting up and walking outside to the room. Everyone was waiting outside the room patiently.

"Who wants to go next?" I asked

"I think Riley should go next" Lauren said

Riley, how had been released from the hospital last night stood up and waked into the room.

RILEY'S POV.

I walked into the room and saw my partner in crime lying on the bed not moving. It took almost everything I had not to break down right there. I saw the chair by the bed and sat down on it stroking Avery's hair lightly.

"Hey Avy," I started using the old nickname I had for her. "It's my fault for tripping over your foot... Dinah overreacted. You need to pull though. I miss my weird, funny, and kind best friend. I miss my partner in crime. Remember all our pranks we pulled at the orphanage?" I said smiling
