Lilium's eyes fluttered open at the sudden noise. A loud, long beep seemed like death screaming at somebody that was soon destined to die. She looked to the bed across from her and saw where the beep was coming from; a big machine that was telling the world that someone is dying. The room was soon full of people that were trying to wake the person from their inevitable slumber. It wasn't until Professor Lox started to yell a name when Lilium realized who was dead.A small whine escaped her tender, pink lips. Professor Veta turned to see the girl hunched over with her hands on her face. He walked over and put an arm around the girl's small and fragile frame. He let her cry for a moment until she ran out of tears. She looked up at the professors and looked at Lox to see him nearly crying.
"I'm sorry," were the only words she spoke to him.
He turned to look at the girl. He scoffed at her and looked away.
"Shut up and sleep before I poke you with some new medicine, freak."
His words slapped Lilium right in the face. She looked down and Veta only held onto her tighter. He told her to sleep and she followed his orders. The next day had to be better, right?
"Lilium, wake up now. You're going back to your room to clean."
Lilium woke to see Lox standing by her bed. She looked around for Professor Veta and saw him asleep in a chair next to her bed.
"I still don't feel good. I'm weak..."
"I don't care. You're going to be fine. You could have ended up like Aluca. What if she didn't die and it was you? That's how it should have been, you know? You should have died. You are the freak, the outcast. Nobody will ever love you. You will be under my watch for the rest of your miserable life."
Professor Veta woke up in time to hear the big speech that it seemed Lox had prepared.
"You can't do that to her, she's only a child. How could you say all that to her? Why do you hate her so damn much if you were the one that wanted to have her created in the first place? You're fake," he argued.
"I'd kill the damn girl if I could. I'd like to beat the hell out of her right now, honestly. If you love her so much then why don't you just take her?" Lox yelled back at him.
"I will. I quit. Lilium, come on. We are going to my house."
"You what? Do you not remember the deal that we had made? You are revealed to the secrets now. If you so much as leave for one day I'd have to kill you," Lox's words made Lilium shiver. What secrets? Why was Lox such an... ass?
"Try it. Don't even think of killing Lilium though. First, make sure I'm good and dead with worms crawling all over my body!" Veta warned, picking up Lilium up gently.
"You'll be sorry. Just wait."
The two arrived back at Veta's house in a little less than an hour. Lilium was put into his daughter's old room. Lilium was soon surrounded by purple walls with pastel blue decorations and pretty lilacs on a desk. She longed to smell them but had to wait until she was healed. Veta put her in the bed and covered her up with a light purple blanket. She smelled a strong scent of roses and looked up the professor.
"What you smell is in the blanket. I made it smell like roses, my daughter's favorite flower of all. I miss her, but her birthday is next week. You can meet her. I'll also ask my wife to come back and live here again. You can have a new mom and sis-"
"Huh? You're going to adopt me?" Lilium asked in a sweet and gentle voice.
"I'm more than just your adopted father, Lilium. I gave you your name and so much more. I gave you life."
"How? I was made at the lab, right?" She looked up at Veta with puppy eyes full of confusion.
"Very true, Lilium, very true. First, let's start with this. You're not fourteen at all. You're only five. You were in the making for nine years. The one way to make you live when we took that womb and blood cell out of your mother was a man's blood. I was the one to give you the blood."
Lilium felt her heart break, yet fill at the same time. What Veta was saying had to be true. He doesn't lie to her. He only loved her. She never understood why he was so nice and patient but this was her answer. He gave her blood which meant she had his blood in her body as well as her mom's. This meant one thing to Lilium and that one thing could change her life forever.
"So, if this is all true then... you're my father?"
There was a long silence which was broken by a small laugh after a few minutes.
"Weird to hear it from you, child, but yes. I'm basically your-"
Veta was interrupted when Lilium hugged him and refused to let go. He was her father which meant that she had a "mom" and half-sister. Her whole life was full of nobody except friends but she now had a family. What more could this girl need?
"Lilium, don't cry," Veta laughed as he felt his shoulder become moist. The girl only shook her head with a reply.
"Too bad. I'm happy. Over happy, actually. I always wanted my mother but having a whole family is way better than I could have hoped for. I'm happy this is how my story ends even if Aluca is gone."
Yes, to Lilium it seemed perfect. Her life would be amazing and spectacular in just a while. Her whole world was all she ever dreamed of then and there at that moment. However, not all stories end in a good way. What Lilium didn't know was it wasn't the end at all. It was only the beginning.
