The morning came and Lilium still felt sick. She didn't get up which caused her to start thinking. She thought about her real mom. Why did she like Lox if he was around thirty years older than her? Who cares about riches anymore? This just wasn't the day and age. Was it really just love? What were her mom's standards if she would settle for that?
Her door squeaked as it opened a little. She wasn't facing the door so she just waited for a voice. Nothing happened. The door closed again. Lilium sighed and looked at the clock. It was only six thirty. She wanted to sleep a little longer but the pain in her stomach didn't die down. She eventually gave up and buried her face in her pillow.
She sat for a good chunk of time, nearly an hour and a half. The door opened completely this time.
"Lilium?" It was her father.
Lilium turned to look at Veta and sat up slightly.
"Hi, dad," she said.
"Hey. Do you feel better?" He questioned her. Lilium's arms collapsed and she was completely on her bed again.
"No. I feel like trash," she admitted. She longed to go shopping for the first time but she still felt sick.
Veta walked off and came back in a couple minutes with medicine and a cup of water.
Lilium took it and then continued thinking on her bed.
What was tonight going to be like? Would she be able to go to her sister's school for open house? It was a private school, so maybe not. Parents could only attend and it was mandatory for both parents. Did Lilium have to stay home tonight? She thought of the man. What if he came again tonight? The odds of that were very slim... but were they? It was probably Lox, after all. He had a whole facility to back him up.
At five they left. Veta gave Lilium his cell phone so she could contact Akira and them if anything happened.
Being home alone sucked. Lilium sat watching the television. She smelt the lavender in the air and smiled as she took in deep breaths. A sudden knock at the door made her jump.
She got up slowly and steadily. Looking through the peephole she saw a man. The man was probably six feet tall and he wore a nice brown suit and a matching hat. Because of this she couldn't see anything else to get an identity. Not knowing any better due to spending her life in the lab, she opened the door.
"Hello?" She asked, her voice quivering with fear.
The man gave her a warm smile before replying, "hello. Is this the Veta residence?"
Lilium only nodded. Her throat felt like it was closing and she swallowed her spit.
"Well then you're Lilium! I'm here to say that I am expecting great things from you, my dear girl. Oh, by the way, check the box in your basement."
With that, the creepy man bowed and walked away. He disappeared into the blackness of the driveway.
Lilium stood there for a couple moments in shock before shutting the door swiftly.
She stood against the door and looked towards the basement opening. Taking a deep breath she marched to the basement. The steps creaked like usual. This normally wouldn't scare her but with what just happened, who wouldn't be scared?
Sure enough, a box was in the basement. It looked pathetic sitting there wrapped in a ghastly shade of brown. It had multiple layers of tape. Lilium attempted to open it only to find it was nearly impossible. Was it meant to keep her there? Why would she be kept in one place?
A sudden noise rang out. It sounded like that loud pop when your electricity goes out in the night. Lilium turned only to see the wall suddenly ignite into red, orange and yellow flames. With a loud scream the young girl climbed up to the window leading to her backyard. She got out right as the walls collapsed. She ran out front and saw her parents pull into the driveway. Her father got out and dragged her to the car as her sister yelled her name.
"Dad, what's going on?"
"We need to get out of town. Hurry," her father quickly explained.
"Why?" Lilium got in next to her sister and buckled up.
"Did a man come to the door?" They pulled out and started to drive away from the flaming house.
"Yeah, why?"
"That man was Lox."
