Chapter Sixteen

" Is this really happening?" Melanie asked later on that day, we hadn't talked much about the revelation that Jonah was her brother. They both seemed to be trying to process it, Jonah giving Melanie her time. "Um yeah, I think it is." I replied watching her pace the floor. "Like how in the world could I not remember having a brother?" She asked looking at me. I shrugged although her attention had gone back to pacing. "You've said it a million times you don't really remember anything, besides you were two years old Mel it's not really expected of you to remember. Plus your entire pack just died in front of you, I'm sure your brain processed some sort of trauma." I said turning around in my chair, we were outside on the deck talking. "Jonah is a really nice guy, I mean really he would be like my number one pick to have as a brother if I had to." She sighed finally sitting down next to me. "It's not that I just really can't believe that I have a brother." "It is crazy isn't it? Who would have through you'd come here and meet your long lost brother." She laughed, "I know right?" Then suddenly I saw her sort of tense up, "You okay?" I asked worriedly. I didn't know what was wrong. Melanie shook out of it, "I'm fine. You know what we need? Ice cream sundaes." Still skeptical I agreed and we made our way back inside to the kitchen as we pulled out ice cream and toppings. As we were about to walk back outside I saw Luke. "Hey, you just get home?" I asked. He nodded giving Melanie an odd look, "Who's this?" He asked. "Oh Mel, this is Luke aka Luca." I was really the only one who called him that. "Luca this is my best friend Melanie." He grunted, okay that was weird. "You know where Alpha is?" He asked shortly. "He's in his office with Cody and Jonah." I replied. "Thanks." Luca said before walking off. Melanie and I walked outside, "Okay was it just me or was that really weird?" I asked her.  She shrugged taking a bite of her ice cream. "So have you found a good mall yet?" She asked totally changing the topic. "Um no? I haven't gotten to go out much with the whole protection mode here." I said eating my ice cream. "So your saying it's been a month since you've gotten new clothes?" She asked a shocked look on her face. "Not really concerned with new clothes when I have a crazy bitch and her unwanted mate are after me." I said bluntly. While I did love shopping and I wanted to go, I knew Jaxon wouldn't be okay with me going especially with everything going on. Plus I had a feeling Luna duties didn't include going shopping. "Come onnnn. What else are we gonna do?" "I haven't really got to do much since I've been here. We could go for a run, we've got tons of pack land." I suggested. I knew Jaxon would probably post up some guards while we were out but I figured he'd probably be okay with it. She agreed and we quickly finished our ice cream while I mind linked Jaxon telling him that we were going out. As expected he told me he sent a few wolves at the border to watch out. We both went into the woods and striped out of our clothes before turning into our wolves. 'So I don't really know the grounds but Jax said we can just roam he's got guys watching so we can go wherever.' I told her thankful that I could still mind link with her considering I technically was in the same pack. She nodded and we took off. For a while we were just running, we played in a creek we found and just when we were headed back I got this weird feeling. 'I think someone is following us.' I told Melanie. 'What do you mean?' I told her to stop while I checked out our surroundings, while I'd been here Jaxon had been helping me with wolf stuff and fighting in wolf form. Melanie walked a few steps a head of me and suddenly I heard a loud thump and a whine. I whipped my head around to see Melanie's wolf on the ground and a large brown wolf stalking towards me, I growled at it yet it still approached. It was as if my body automatically knew what to do, I assumed it was my wolf fully taking over my body because I had never felt this way before. She took a large bite into his neck making him pass out. 'We have to go now.' I said to her, she was limping a rock had crushed the lower part of her leg. 'Jaxon! You have to get out here, someone attacked Mel and me!' I said to him trying to keep my calm, I didn't want him worrying anymore than he would. 'Get to the house now!' I heard him growl it before telling me he was on his way. Melanie and I quickly made our way back to the house meeting Luka outside with blankets. He tossed them over to me a worried look on his face, I changed and covered myself up before covering mMelanie too. As soon as she was covered Luka came over to us pulling Melanie up into his arms. "Are you okay? Talk to me what happened?" He said looking at her worriedly. "Mel baby, come on stay awake." I picked up what he said and I was automatically confused I didn't know what the hell was going on. "Abigail, she's my mate okay? Please tell me what the fuck happened." Luka begged. I snapped out of my state of shock. "She got attacked, the bottom half of her leg is shattered she needs a doctor." I said trying not to cry. Luka nodded before taking off, I heard something behind me and quickly turned to see Jaxon. Cody and Jonah had the guy wolf who attacked us. I ran into Jaxons arms. "Are you okay? Look at me." He said grabbing my face in his hands. I nodded, the tears now falling. "I'm okay. " I could see him visibly checking me for injuries. I had a few scratches from the other wolf swiping at me but that was it. "What happened?" He asked. "We were on our way back and I heard something, he threw Melanie against a cliff her leg is shattered. Jaxon I don't know what I did it was like I couldn't control my body. I think it was my wolf she just bit into his neck and he dropped." I tried to explain through the tears. He hugged me tight kissing my head, before I felt his body start to shake. I looked up at his face, "What?" I asked. "The man who attacked you... he's Alexis' mate."
