1:25 pm; Evan's room
I dress myself for the lunch that Evan has set up. We are going to meet Alex there and his date. I don't really think of this as a date even though Evan decided to bring me along with him. I'm just going there as merely as an acquiantance to him.
The black dress I'm wearing cling to the curve of my body. It's a haltered-dress that falls mid-thigh. It has black sequins on its lining that shine every now and then when light hits it. I tie my hair to the side. I match it with my navy blue earrings and two black bangles I have and a wear my knee-high black boots. I look like a rockstar to be honest.
A knock startles me a little. Then the door opens and Evan asks as he pops his head a little, "You ready?"
I look at him and say, "Ready as you are." I walk towards him, smiling.
He looks at me from head to toe with an amuswd smile plastered on her face. "You are one hell of a gorgeous woman."
I blush. I still can't get used to it whenever he would refer me to a woman. "Stop the compliments," I say, chuckling.
He laughs a little. "You know what's missing?" he asks. I raise an eyebrow. "This." Then he shows a long red velvet case. He opens it and it reveals a silver necklace with a pendant that spells my name.
Charlie.
I smile. He takes it out and wears it to me. It looks nice and I love it. One thing that pains me is that, this necklace is another thing that will remind me of Evan. And one thing I have to leave behind once I go.
"This is nice," I say, touching the necklace. I look at him. "Let's go."
"Don't I get a kiss?" he asks before I can take two steps away from him. I raise an eyebrow as I look over my bare shoulder. "Because you know, in movies--"
"We're not in movies, Evan," I answer, matter-of-factly.
He stiffens, the smile on his face slowly disappearing. "Right," he says. "Right. Let's go then." He walks past me and I follow him from behind.
He opens the door for me and I get in right away. He gets in to the driver's seat and drives out without taking a glance at me.
The silence is horribly killing me. Evan is almost not even breathing. All I can hear is my heart beating rapidly at a speed I can't keep up. Why did I have to ruin such a wonderful day by opening my big mouth?
I sigh, not knowing anything else to do. I can't just casually talk to him like nothing happened earlier. I mean, I snap at him for goodness sake. It isn't a big of a deal but still I feel bad about it.
When we stop in a parking lot, I'm almost thankful that the twenty- minute drive is over and that I can get out of the car now. It feels like eternity to be inside!
Evan cut out the engine but doesn't move a muscle out of his car. He just stares outside, his hands still holding the steering wheel. I want to start asking him what, but I can't seem to find my voice right now.
"I'm sorry," he says.
I blink. "For what?"
"For... For everything." He turns to face me now. "I'm sorry, Charlie."
I smile a little, not exactly meeting his eyes. "It's okay. We should talk about that later though. Alex and his date might be inside now," I say as I unbuckle my seat belt.
