Chapter 3-
Running was like freeing my soul. I absolutely love the wind in my hair and the surrounding smells. The world seems intoxicating if you really think about it. The gloriousness of everything, especially when you're in wolf form. Axel interrupted my thoughts when he tackled me to the ground in the long plush grass. I couldn't help but giggle.
"Axel!" I rolled around, trying to get him off. It was a good thing I was wearing my riding gear.
"Hm?" he smiled, pinning me to the ground.
"You'd better not cause bruises. I have a dinner tonight with the family," I said, mind shifting to my parents. Mother and father Chadwick were not wolves, but Mother and father Landon had to be. That means Eric had to be.. Wait. That means.. "My brother is my sister's mate." I breathed, forgetting Axel atop of me.
"I won't, and don't worry I'm attending since I'm still staying at your house," he smirked. "And yeah, except she's not your sister." Axel told me, loosening his grasp.
"Still. Wait. I'm not about to imply on anything but," I paused. "Even if mates aren't married... Will the male still bed his mate?"
Axel froze. "Yes? Unless she doesn't want it.." we locked eyes and I searched his bright blue eyes and his face got closer to mine. My wolf pushed my thinking aside and let him do what he wanted.
His soft lips brushed mine and I couldn't move. Thinking about our past topic of conversation, I was paralyzed. He started to actually kiss me and my wolf kissed back when I heard the deep pounding of horse hooves. Axel clinged to me, pressing me to the ground with his lean body. My wolf was delighted even when the horse jumped over us.
"Your mothers and fathers want you Bethie," Martin chuckled. "You better not be doing anything that would disgrace them, with a duke or not." he said and I managed to wiggle out from under Axel.
"Alright, and don't worry, I won't," I shot a glare to Axel. We only shared a kiss, that's not bad.. For wolves."Take me home Martin?"
"Sure thing Bethie," he said as I jumped on his horse. "Sorry Monroe, there's no room." Martin smirked before cantering off.
At dinner we sat in awkward silence, my two families plus Axel. I thought about telling them about being a wolf, but first I had to come clean to my birth mother first. Leaning over to my left I whispered in her ear and she simply nodded. I needed to tell the rest of the family. "Please excuse me," I started as I stood. "I have something to say."
"Yes dear?" My Father Chadwick smiled.
I looked around nervously. "My birth family and I have a secret to tell."
"Don't we all?" Mother Chadwick laughed.
"We're a family of wolves. All my life I've been able to shift into a wolf and Eric is Genevieve's mate. Not just a lover." I blurted. Genevieve smiled.
“We know Beth." she said.
"How?" I questioned.
"She's a Oracle.. or a prophet. Whichever you prefer." Axel said.
Genevieve glared at him. "Yes. Mother was one, and so are all of our sisters but they don't have the talent yet."
"How so?" Eric asks but I knew he knew the answer.
"The talent chooses to move within a family and currently, I hold it. It'll move on when I conceive. So on and so forth." she replied.
"If we're all confessing," Axel spoke up. "Bethany's my mate. I'm looking to marry her, and today we kissed." he smirked and shrugged.
Eric's face grew dark and my birth parents smiled. My other parents sat there dumbfounded, knowing he was the son of King and Queen Monroe. “Is that so?" my brother snapped. "Gen, how come I do not know of this!"
"Sweets, you simply cannot interfere with the future," she replied nicely. "I'm happy for you Beth!" she grinned.
"What else have you done with my sister?" Eric growled at Axel, putting authority aside.
"Nothing." Axel kept his smirk on his face. Eric bounded over the table and shifted. My families bolted from the table as Axel shifted too.
Two wolves circled each other snarling. Now, It was now a full on brawl in the dining room.
