Chapter 4>>
My brother's jaws snapped in Axel's face and my wolf whined for both of the men. Eric threw the first paw. His claws scratched Axel's face good and that was enough to make him angry. Axel jumped on Eric and the rolled across the floor. Genevieve yelled at Eric to quit but the boys kept fighting. My birth parents barked orders around the house and I felt the presence of many other wolves.
My body shook as the men tore into each other's flesh, my wolf has had enough. I shifted into my jet black wolf as knighted wolves broke the dining room doors down. I blocked them out as I clawed my way between the men. Honestly I didn't care what happened as long as they stopped trying to kill eachother. The men stopped and stood panting as I growled between them.
"Beth." Genevieve breathed as I continued giving death looks to the men. Axel looked passed me and snarled at Eric. I snorted and tore off to my room.
After about fifteen minutes, a servant knocked softly at my door. "Miss?" a small female woman entered my room wringing her hands. I'd recognize her from around the house.
"Hmm?" I looked up and smiled.
"Sir Monroe would like to see you." she said nervously.
"Tell him no." I sat on my bed.
"He insisted I keep telling you until you came." she said softly.
"Fine, tell him I must dress." I waved her off. She curtsied and swiftly left the room. I pulled on a light pink dress and slipped on my most comfortable shoes before walking out of my room. My black hair was all over because I had failed to tame it after the fight.
"You came." Axel said as he laid with his arms behind his head, bare chested. His eyes were closed and he was covered in blood and scratches.
"I did," I silently closed the door and sat in the chair by the hearth. "Why'd you call for me Axel?"
"I wanted to see you." he said. I observed the blood that covered his body and couldn't resist the urge to help him.
"Why hasn't anyone dressed your wounds?" I asked curiously.
"I wanted my future wife to." he smiled slightly and my heart pounded against my chest.
"Well-" I stood and called for a rag and a bowl of hot water.
"And I thought I'd tell you what you'd be doing tomorrow." he said, his eyes now open and on me.
"What am I doing tomorrow?" I asked, setting the bowl on the nearby table and sitting on the edge of the bed. Axel scooted over with a slight groan and he placed a hand On my thigh as I soaked the rag.
"You're coming home with me." he said. I pushed his hand off my thigh and started washing out the cuts.
"Is that so? Why makes you think my fathers will let you bring their under age daughter home with him?" I smiled slightly.
"Because I technically asked you to marry me earlier this evening." he said and I hesitated. Earlier, I hadn't even comprehended what he said.
"Axel, I barely know you." I said
"You can get to know me! Besides, you'll be at my side eventually." he said, as I received dressings for Axel's wounds.
"Yes but-"
"It's settled. You're coming home with me tomorrow." he smiled.
"Uh-" I got cut off again as my sisters bombarded his room and abducted me. Apparently Genevieve had told them.
I sat in my room silent as my sisters hustled around with two other servants packing bags for me.
Genevieve lectured me on letting my mate get what he wants when he wants as in bedding me before marriage. She says the whole world can't know about wolves so I need to keep quiet. The stress that has been laid out on me can take a toll but she also said to take lots of runs. The good part of having an oracle sister.
That night I couldn't sleep, I spent my last night in bed tossing and turning staring at the ceiling. Though it was summer, I felt cold tonight as if I were missing something. When the sun finally rose, I started to hear shuffles out in the hall and whispers.
"Wake her up now or in half an hour?" someone said.
"Depends on when the prince wants to leave or if he wants her up." someone else replied.
"BETHANY!!!!"Axel sang-yelled. I heard him running through the halls. He definitely thought he owned the place. I rolled my coverlet around me and my shift got tangled up in my legs as he barged in.
"Go away." I groaned.
"Nopee," he yanked my coverlet off and I screamed. "Calm down!"
"NO! MOM!!" my voice rang out and Genevieve was first in the room.
"It's okay Beth," Eric came in and dragged Axel out of my room. "Please don't fight!" Genevieve called out.
"They're not going to fight." Genevieve smiled.
"Good," I glared at the door. "I really don't want to go Gen." I looked at her.
Her eyes were sympathetic. "I know, but you probably should. You don't have to like him now, but I know you'll grow to love him. He is your mate after all." she smiled and handed me a pale, light fabriced dress and riding boots.
"Yeah." I shrugged as she helped me lace up my dress and pinning my hair up.
"You know you have no riding gear now right?" Genevieve said, finished pinning my hair up.
"What!?" I exclaimed.
"Yup, all you have left is those shoes," she was silent. "You'd better go before things get ugly." she hugged me tight before I rushed out of my room into the hall.
My life hasn't stopped changing now has it? Mystical creatures, secrets, the duke.. Now I'm a Dutchess, mate, soon-to-be-wife, wolf, and who knows what else.
Oh my.
