Chapter 6-
It's been about two weeks since the death of Martin, and it really took no effect on me. Yes he was my best friend, but he had turned into something horrid and nasty, something that is better off dead. He was a good friend at one point I'd have to say though, he was always there for me and..
"Beth?" Axel's mother interrupted my half sleep-hazed thoughts as she walked gracefully into my room, her eggplant gown swirling about her ankles.
"Yes?" I sat up, sure my hair was all frizzed about my head.
"I'm sorry to awaken you but would you mind joining us down in the dining hall? I'll have the maids fetch your finest gown-"
"
Whatever so for?" I raised a brow.
"All the barons and dukes are downstairs with their family.. Did Axel not tell you about-" she paused to read my face.
"Of course not. I'm sorry to hit you with this news so early but we are hosting a official courting tonight.. For you and Axel." she says with a kind smile playing at her lips.
"Oh swell madam, this has started out as the finest day." I say with an annoyed tone in my voice.
She simply smiles at me and turns on her heel, exiting my room as several maids sweep into my room, a pale yellow gown in hand, pins, and the most painful looking shoes in the world.
Oh boy.
My dark hair was pinned atop of my head for hours now and I really wanted it down. “Axel,” I groaned, yanking lightly on him arm.
“Hm?” he leaned down so his ear was closer.
“My hair, I want it down.. Can you do something so we can retire early? I don’t care what you must do but I want out of this annoying attire.”
“Your wish is my command Mrs.Monroe,” he gave an adorable wink.
This made me smile madly, “Ah ah ah, not yet!” I giggle.
Axel wanders off and in a few moments, there was a loud whistle and his mother grinning hugely next to his father on a small stage. Axel stood tall off to the left of him but I could tell he was quite nervous with a hint of embarrassment. Oh no. He did not do what I’m thinking he did-
“As all night’s come to a close at a courting,” his father says loudly. My heart thunders in my chest as I know what he is about to say. “We congratulate their handfasting, where anything may happen and it will not be a sin. Bethany darling, where are you lingering?” he asks and people turn to me.
“Ah!” Axel’s mother says giddy. “Come, come!!” she waves a red silk tie in the air.
My stomach drops as people cheer and I soon find my feet carrying me towards the stage. I silently curse at my wolf as we gracefully stand tall and proud next to Axel. People hoot and holler as his mother ties our hands together.
“A toast to the handfasters!” his father calls out and everyone raises their flutes.
“Come darlings,”his mother nudges us towards the edge of the stage. “You must see your room for the night.”
Those were the words I had been dreading all night.
We were locked in the nicest, yet highest room in the whole castle. Servants would be up in the morning to feed us and change our beddings but it was hours until then. We really have nothing to do except-
“I can’t believe you picked this over saying I was feeling ill,” I snort.
“Well,” he shrugs. “I can tell you don’t care. I know you better than you think Beth.”
“Yeah well-”
Axel takes off his boots with one hand and shakes the right one upside down, sending a shank skittering across the floor. He smiles and looks at me. “Love me?”
“YES!” I stand up quickly as we walk to the shank and Axel was about to cut our tie. “Well what are you waiting for?”
He smiled mischievously. “Nothing,” he cut the tie.
“Yeah..” I pulled several pins from my hair, curls tumbling down my back. “Well, I’m going to try to sleep-” I lay down facing away from Axel but I feel the bed dip. “What?” I roll over to face him.
He just smiled and crawled over to me, pushing me on my back, grabbing my wrists and putting them above my head as he moved to straddle me.
“Axel!” I shriek. “What are you doing!?”
“I’m going to make you beg to be claimed, and maybe more.” he says, kissing my neck.
Shivers shoot down to my forbidden area. “You will never make me do anything Axel. You can’t.” I say with uncertainty.
“You sure about that?” he asks.
“Yes!” I exclaim. ‘No.’ I say to myself.
“Well then, lets see how good you are Mrs.Monroe..” he smirks.
Mrs.Monroe.. I could get used to hearing that....
