I sat at the dining table, my eyes filled to the brim with tears of grief. I couldn't protect her, I couldn't keep he's safe. The funeral was tomorrow and I couldn't bear to watch her die, my eyelids were burning from the amount of saltwater pouring from them daily, it was shameful the way I was acting. Like a child who lost his favorite toy, I should be trying to bring her back not mumbling around like some sort of crybaby! I was Ridgedog, the mighty god of chaos, not Ridgedog the incredibly weak and wimpy! Kaz left yesterday to tell everyone she was gone, I couldn't even say her name for Christ's sake! The room I sat in, usually filled with talk and laughter sat silent, no sound but my shallow breathing. I wonder if that is what it feels like to die, to be silent and alone, I hope not, she wouldn't deserve something like that! AGAIN WITH THE SHE! JAC FOR GODS SAKE!

"JAC!" I yelled out, some of the painful tears escaping my iron grip, it was too hard, the man of marble turning soft. I was alone again, but yet, I was anything but. I stood quickly, my, no HER, coat fluttering on my back as I visited her body. She was currently within a magic barrier keeping her from, decaying. Ugh, just the thought of her lily white skin decaying made my skin crawl and my mind become agonized. I wish I would have been there, that I could have grasped her arm and that she could be here right now. And as I made it to where she lay, her arms limp holding a bouquet of lilies against her chest, I broke. Wasn't it only two days ago when we were laughing, flying, loving, with each other, and as I looked at her hand I saw the ring, still firmly on her bony fingers, the amber stone glinting in the evening sunlight. As I looked around the gazebo, the one I had built for her that she had never gotten to see, it almost felt serene again, the small bed that held her made it look as if she was sleeping, that she would wake up and exclaim that she loved me as she always did.

"You were perfect." I whispered, stroking her long red hair, slightly wind blown from her outdoor position.

"I loved you to much, and then you got to far from my grasp, and you fell. You were valiant though, you went down saving the people that you loved. I respect you for that. Just come back, if you can hear me, come back for me!" I said, speaking to the corpse in front of me, she was gone, I just hope she went to a land of eternal summer, and found that she could live on without my constant reminders of pain and sorrow.
