I felt myself jolt awake when I heard the door open and close. I looked down to find Danni still asleep in my arms. I turned to her clock on the wall and it was only three in the afternoon. I quickly and quietly removed myself from Danni's embrace and stumbled towards her door. I peered around the corner and caught a glimpse of a woman walking towards the kitchen. Was that her mum? I slowly made my way down the hall, making sure not to bring attention to myself. Before I could make it to the end, the woman stood in front of me. Her eyes met mine. They were dark as night and held so much aggression and hatred. Her black hair was long and straight, bringing out her soft pale details. I felt my heart speed up.
"Who are you?" She asked, her voice soft and sincere.
"Andy," I replied, keeping my walls up.
"And why are you here?" She asked, tapping her fingers against a book.
"Because I am,"
"Don't be smart with me child," she sighed, looking over her manicure.
"Who are you to my daughter?"
"Acquaintance," I replied, feeling something tug at my heart.
"Something tells me you're more than that," she smirked, stepping closer to me. I held my ground. Was this really the woman who abused Danni?
"Where is my daughter?" She asked, her breath smelt like coffee and vodka.
"Sleeping, so it's best we leave her,"
"You think you can come into my house and tell me what to do?"
"I'm not telling just simply suggesting," I replied, shrugging my shoulders. Her hand gripped my wrist tight. I forcefully pulled it away from her.
"Strong I see," she smirked.
"So why the horrible looking face?" She asked, looking me up and down.
"I don't think it's any of your business,"
"It is if you're seeing my daughter, or in my house," she smiled.
"I'm not seeing Danni,"
"Then why are you here? Someone would think you cared about my daughter more than just acquaintances,"
"I was simply doing the job you couldn't possibly handle yourself," I whispered, venom in my voice. She took another step towards me, our faces were millimetres apart. If she wasn't wearing those black heels she wouldn't be at the same level as me.
"Well then, if I didn't care for Danni, would I give her a roof to live under? Food? Water? Would I even be here?"
"You say that but I know what you do to her," I watched a smirk fall over her lips.
"Do you now?" She smiled, taking a couple of steps back. I nodded.
"Mum what are you doing home?" Danni replied shocked. I watched as her eyes fell on Danni.
"Well darling, seeing as it's your birthday tomorrow I thought we'd celebrate,"
"And if she doesn't want too?" I asked, feeling Danni's presence behind me.
"I can easily change her mind," she shrugged.
"If you know what I mean Danni," I turned to face her. Her face was pale. She looked scared for her life.
"How about you leave me and my daughter to discuss some things?"
"I'm not leaving," I felt Danni grab my arm.
"Please leave," she whispered, too scared to look up at me. I tightened my jaw. As much as I didn't want to leave her alone with her mother, I knew that I had to listen to her.
