Sienna was sat on the floor, hands folded on the coffee table and her head resting on them. Soft sobs shook her body, as they had been for a while. She never thought she’d get back, and now that she has, she desperately wished that she hadn’t.
Archer and all of her friends were now in Bianna, but here she was, back in real time. The day after she’d gotten married. She couldn’t help repeating, this isn’t fair! over and over again in her mind.
After all, it wasn’t fair. Sienna had just warmed up to the idea of being Bianna’s queen and Archer’s wife, but here she was, married but a whole lifetime away from the people she loved. Just thinking about it more made her cry harder, but what else could she think about? There was no way for her to get a hold of her friends, no way for her to tell them she was alright.
After hours of sitting and sobbing, after all of her tears were gone and her legs were numb from sitting cross-legged on the floor, she stood up and walked into her bedroom. Everything was off and the bed was made. A stack of DVD’s sat on the dresser that was underneath the TV.
She went to her closet and changed out of her medieval dress -and this included much struggle with the corset, making her wish her friends were here- back into a sports bra and fuzzy Spongebob pajama pants.
She put the movie Elf in the DVD player and crawled into bed. She laughed and cried through the whole movie and a few more after Elf.
By the time she was done crying, she had watched four or five movies and was shaking uncontrollably. She pulled the covers off of her and walked into the bathroom staring at her reflection.
Her hair that was in falling curls was tied into a ponytail and she had eyeliner and mascara streamed down her face.
She turned on the shower and let the hot water fall over her and wipe away all the cold, salty tears. She scrubbed furiously at her face, hoping to wipe away all the memories.
She thought that maybe it was all some sort of delusion, some sort of feeling she had longed for. Maybe not as a princess, but definitely to fall in love. To be loved by everyone. To feel like someone thought she was the best thing to ever happen to them.
It felt so real, though. She told herself, I’d be crazy if I told myself I didn’t fall in love with my dream. That it wasn’t everything I’ve ever wanted.
Here she was though, sitting in the shower of the apartment that she shared with her best friends, just like she was several days ago. Finally convincing herself none of it was real and she just fell asleep in the chair, she got out of the shower and pulled on a t-shirt and yoga pants.
She hopped in her car and drove down to the coffee shop David’s aunt owned. Lucky for her, Alice was there.
“Oh my god, Sienna! You’re okay! David was freaking out that you weren’t okay! Where is he, speaking of him?”
Sienna’s voice hitched in her throat, but she willed herself to talk. She knew she needed to tell someone.
“We need to talk.”
Alice sat Sienna down at a table, getting both of them hot chocolate and letting Sienna talk freely. She explained everything that had happened recently to Alice.
The night before the party.
Bianna.
Archer.
Aspyn.
Harrison.
Willow.
The garden.
The twitter account Aspyn made her set up.
The proposal.
Her friends arriving.
The road trip to see the sunset.
The planning for the wedding.
Being referred to as Princess.
The wedding.
The vows.
The reception.
Her first kiss.
Everything.
And then waking up back home.
“Wow.”
Sienna took a sip of her water, “Yep, and I have no proof, my wedding ring is gone, along with my dress. The longer I’m gone the more they’re going to think I’m not coming back.”
“Well, what do you want to do?”
She raised her eyebrows in frustration. Not at Alice, just at the situation. “I’m torn, I have a life in both places.”
“Maybe we can find a way to combine both,” Alice suggested.
Sienna gave Alice a confused look. “How?”
“I don’t know but I bet there’s a way.”
****************
Alice was in the living room shuffling through the pages of the tattered book and Sienna was in the kitchen popping popcorn for the two of them to eat while they figured out how to merge the two worlds.
“So how did you get in the book?”
Sienna poured the popcorn into a giant metal bowl while answering the dirty blonde girl sitting in her living room. “Aspyn said something about the title of the country they’re in charge of and muttering about wishing you were there. Which would make sense, actually, while I was reading I was also on the phone with Alex about him being in Florida and I had told him I wished I was there.”
“Okay, so I’ll be careful not to do that while I’m reading, because for now my goal is to stay in the real world.”
Sienna smiled a bit. “That’s a good goal.”
“Yeah, it is.”
Sienna put the pieces of popcorn in her mouth, watching Alice shuffle through the pages of the mysterious book.
“So how did you get back?” Alice asked, after looking through all the pages and finding nothing of use other than the fact Sienna and her friends had been written into the story.
Sienna looked taken aback at Alice’s question for a second before swallowing the popcorn, clearing her throat and saying, “I have no clue. I just woke up and was back.”
“But you said your friend Aspyn told you that no one had ever gotten back, is that correct?”
She suddenly felt like she was on trial. Sienna knew that Alice was just asking to get a grasp of the situation, but it seemed like she didn’t believe her. At least thats how Sienna felt.
She shakily said, “yeah, that’s what she told me.”
“Except for one person.”
Sienna just nodded her head.
Alice pulled her lips in a tight line for a second and then grinned. “I think I have an idea about how to merge the two worlds.”
Smiling note:
