“You had to take a dance class?” I ask, suppressing a laugh.

“Shut up, Sienna. Will you help me?” Riley mumbles, looking down and inspecting his shoes. “I know you took dance for a few years.”

I smile, “on one condition.”

“Anything.”

“Stop hitting on me, please,” I ask. “Then I’ll help you.”

“Fine, fine,” he replies, “thank you.”

“Of course, Riley. What song are you supposed to dance to?” I ask, scrolling through the music on my phone, looking at my dance playlist.

He shrugs his shoulders, “doesn’t matter.” I continue scrolling until I decide we could warm up to Ready, Aim, Fire by Imagine Dragons and then dance to Hearts Content by Brandi Carlile. While he does stretches, I go change into leggings, a sports bra and a tank top. I pull on my ballet slippers and head out to see him toppling over from one of the stretches.

“C’mon, Riles. Lets go to your house and get you changed and then we can head over to my friend Sutton’s studio. She’s the one who gave me dance lessons. She’ll let us practice in one of her studio rooms.” He reluctantly follows me out of my apartment and we stop by Rachel’s parents house to let him change into a t-shirt and some workout shorts or something. After that, we head over to the studio.

Sutton squeals when she sees me. “Sienna I haven’t seen you in forever!” She gushed, “are you here because running got too intense for you and you prefer dancing?”

I smile but shake my head, “No, Sutton, running is less effort, but I do like dancing. However, I’m here because my little friend Riley here needed some help with his dance class.”

“Ooohh! what song are y’all dancing to?” She asks excitedly.

“Hearts content.”

She grins, “well lets go get you set up, yeah?”

After she got us all set up she left, telling us she had a class to teach. I have Riley do a number of stretches until I feel like he’s completely warmed up. I take his left hand in my right one and place his right hand on my hip, placing mine on his shoulder.

“Okay, Riles, you are gonna go forward, forward, stop, side, back, back,” I instruct, “got it?”

He gives me a frightened look, “Uh, sorry Sienna, but no... no I didn’t..”

I laugh and begin to go through the motions, dragging him along with me. After playing the whole song through a few times he finally began to get the step of it. After he finally perfects it I smile and step back. “Okay, now we’re gonna practice the dip.”

“Like eating?” he asks, and the confusion on his face is adorable.

I laugh, “No, honey, you’re gonna take my hand and then I’m going to spin into you.” I demonstrate, spinning into him, with his arm ending around me, “We’re going to end up really close.”

“Yeah I noticed,” he murmured.

“Then I’m going to take my left leg and you’re going to catch it under my knee, placing your other hand on the middle of my back.” He does exactly as I say and then leans me back. Instead of it turning out perfectly, like I had hoped, he toppled over and landed on top of me.

He groans, placing his arms on either side of me attempting to lift himself up. His hands slip, however, and he ends up collapsing on me again. “Sorry, Sienna. Sorry.”

I just laugh and push him off of me, “It’s all right, Riles, let’s try it again.” After trying a good few times, we finally get it. We dance around for the full length of the song until the last lines come on. I spin and he tips me back, and when I come up, our faces are so close I can feel his breath on my face. I quickly take a step back, “That was awesome. We’ll practice again next week, yeah?”
