Guy | Girl
She walked into their last day of detention a little late. Even from the hallway, she could clearly hear the noise that filled the tiny room.
As soon as she opened the door, she caught sight of several familiar faces staring back at her. Before she could register her surprise, however, he had already started talking.
"You asked me yesterday: what's the point?"
He gestured at the group of people behind him. Alicia, Seb, Annalise, Charlotte all smiled back at her. All of her friends, and then some. Her sister, who was two years younger than her, stood in the corner. Even Emma Sullivan had come, looking hesitant and out of place, but she was there nonetheless.
"They're the point."
"These are all people whose lives you've touched. These are the people you're fighting for. You're not alone. There are people who will join you, who agree with you, who fight for the same cause."
"Happy birthday." He smiled. And she couldn't help but grin herself at his efforts.
"You went through all of this trouble for me?"
"We only turn 17 once."
"Plus, you're now a dancing queen." Her sister piped up, a timid smile on her face.
The room soon erupted into chatter and gossip. Despite the fact that it was supposed to be detention, it felt more like a couple of friends hanging out.
"How did you get Mr. J to agree to this?" She asked, referring to the teacher that usually monitored their detentions.
He shrugged. "I guess he finally got tired of watching us all the time too. It is our last day, he finally decided to cut us some slack."
She looked at him curiously. "I just remembered something."
"Shoot."
"I never apologized for punching you. I know I can be a bitch at times."
"It's okay." He swung an arm around her. "If you weren't a bitch, we might never have become friends."
She laughed, taking his words in stride."I also wanted to thank you. Not just for this," She waved her hand at the room, filled with all the people she cared about in the school.
She took a deep breath."Maybe I just needed someone to listen. Thank you for being that person."
"No need to thank me." He said kindly. "You also taught me something important."
"Yeah?"
"You taught me that being a feminist doesn't make me weak, it makes me strong."
A/N- AND IT'S A WRAP! I just double updated so make sure to check out ch. 29 as well or this chapter might not make a whole lot of sense.
I know that the story doesn't really have a whole lot of finality. I never meant for it too. But I might rewrite it more novel style in the future as I think that's what it ended up being anyways as I neared the end of the story.
If you receive ten thousand updates from me (I'm sorry) but it's because I'm going to do go back and change some formatting issues and details. I got a little sloppy somewhere in the middle and I'm pretty (definitely) sure that I didn't format some of my chapters properly.
