I really poured my heart into this book. Despite the length of the chapters, it took an extraordinarily long time to write.
Now three years later, it's finally done. Perhaps the most interesting part is that this was written fully on Wattpad. I really lived life on the edge here. I almost lost a few chapters a while back when my computer crashed/wattpad malfunctioned.
Now, this book is very dear to me. For many reasons. The book was a way for me to tell the accounts of myself, my friends, and other women around the world. Many of the chapters really hit home for me if they didn't come straight out of my own life.
This book is not a work of fiction, it's a work of stories and of life. I didn't intend for the main character girl to take after me, especially since so many people found her annoying (lol). But slowly in her, I put my traits, my quirks, and my struggles. I hold her very close to my heart. She was never even given a name because girl is every woman.
This is kind of a partial explanation as to why I never responded to any comments on this book. I hate how I felt a just a little bit attacked when a character did get hate, something that I found was specific to this book.
I never included anything very dark or even controversial. No one was raped. No one got an abortion. I barely skimmed the surface on human trafficking, forced prostitution, or domestic violence. Despite the fact that these are very real issues that happen, I wanted to keep it realistic to my life. I wanted to keep it light-hearted and playful yet at the same time bring a powerful message.
I knew coming into this, people would disagree with me. It's normal and I understand that all of us hold different opinions. So maybe this book didn't change your mind. That's okay! We'll keep walking our separate paths, and maybe one day when we meet at a crossroad, you'll be open to hearing me speak again.
I love you all for even reading this. For giving it a chance.
Bye for now,
Colette
