"I heard about what happened." She walked into detention, sympathetic for once. "I'm sorry."

"No need." He said, waving off her concern. "I'm fine. It was just a fight. I'm used to getting publicly dumped."

"To be fair, you'll probably get back together next week? Just like you always do."

The famous on again off again couple of their little high school. Everyone knew their history. And by the looks of it, their future.

"Yeah, probably. She's just PMSing or on her period or something. Once her anger cools down, she'll come back to me."

Her smile stilled. "What?"

"I don't know. She was just being a bitch. She always looks like it."

"Can't a girl just be angry or annoyed or sad without having it be a hormone thing? The first reaction when a girl has any attitude is 'oh, it must be hormones or you're PMSing' and do you know how tired I am of hearing that girls who have a resting bitch face should stop being a bitch or stop looking so uptight or that she should smile?"

"I'm really not in the mood for this right now. I really don't want to argue with you about this."

"Do you know why I have a resting bitch face now? Because I used to smile on the streets and get harassed constantly. I now wear scowls and frowns and glares like battle armour, trying to ward off the inappropriate comments, looks, and touches."

"Okay, whatever, you win."

"It's not about winning." She murmured under her breath, guilt tearing her insides apart when she caught sight of his crestfallen expression. "It's about changing."
