Guy | Girl
Mr. J looked conspiratorially at the two of them. They had been sitting in his detention room for nearly half an hour without one peep, other than the occasional glance or smile. Was he dreaming or did the two of them actually look like they were getting along for more than two minutes? Was an undisturbed and quiet nap too much to ask for?
He was just about to nod off when the girl's glaringly high voice cut through his peaceful thoughts.
"I know I had said earlier that guys are ashamed to be like girls, but sometimes I feel like girls are too." She scoffed. "I hate this new 'I'm different from other girls' trend."
He looked bewildered. "I have no idea what you're talking about."
Mr. J started rubbing his temples. It was. It was too much to ask for some quiet. It was like these teenagers never stopped talking these days.
"Come on. Emma Chamberlain? Hannah Meloche? This movement is contradictory in itself because every girl says they're not like other girls. Then what are girls? What are you? A chicken?"
He looked like he thought this conversation was ridiculous.
"And the worst part is that girls who say they aren't like other girls always put down the so-called other girls. What's wrong with watching your diet, wearing makeup, or never going out in sweatpants. What's wrong with having girl friends instead of gaming and eating chicken nuggets with your guy friends every Friday night? It's a movement grounded in male acceptance and internalized misogyny."
She was pissed off. This was one of the most disappointing things about modern-day feminism. That girls thought that not being feminists and not giving a fuck made them automatically different and cool to the male eye.
"I need to come to class with my hair curled and my makeup done. I'm uptight. I sometimes have a stick stuck up my ass I know. I'm petty. I hate beer. And I hate football even more. I don't play sports. I don't even understand sports. I get angry very often. I'm oversensitive. I'm not chill. And I'm tired of feeling embarrassed about my normal and girl-like tendencies."
"I'm exactly like other girls And what's wrong with that?"
