Chp 3 ~ Better me than you

Donatello's P.O.V

"Rise and shine turtles!" Donnie jumped in his shell when Shredder's voice echoed the hall. He and Leo had not even slept all through the night. 'How could we?'

Donnie looked down at Mikey cocooned in his arms. Because they didn't want them to die yet they had the Foot soldiers wrapped up his plastron and arms, but didn't stitch or anything! It was unbelievable.

Leo long since left them, metaphorically obviously. He wasn't looking at them, his shell was facing them. Donnie was alone no matter how he tried to comfort him. Donnie had never been good at the whole comforting thing anyway. So Donnie was basically alone.

"Raph!" Donnie gasped when Raph was being dragged by both his arms. It worried Donnie that he was halfheartedly kicking his feet but not moving his arms. His limbs were covered in dried blood, bruises and nicks.

The Foot dropped him on the floor and he cried out in pain. But at least this made Leo look up. His eyes were hard, angry, and empty at the same time. He looked up at the Foot and Shredder, growling and baring his teeth as he all but flew to Raph's side protectively.

Of course, they were cold-blood reptiles but they were also half humanoid and it was shocking to see Leo act this way. Donnie gritted his teeth angrily when Shredder just let out a large laugh at what Leo did. But all he did was try to shield Raph from Shredder's view.

"What did you do to him?! I'll kill you!" Leo yelled loudly. Donnie looked down, hoping Mikey had woken up. He did not. Donnie frowned while frustrated tears prickled his eyes.

"I'm fine Fearless..." Raph groaned while struggling to sit up. Leo looked towards him, the Shredder forgotten. Donnie froze when he smirked at him then backed up and out of the door. Donnie was a bit confused but he focused on his other brothers.

"You're not fine, you idiot!" Leo yelled surprising Donnie, Raph's eyes widened ever so slightly. "Damn it why couldn't you just let me do this?!" Raph's eyes were full blown wide now and Donnie's mouth dropped in stunned silence.

'Leo never curses! Emphasis on the never part!' Donnie thought shocked.

"What did he do?"

"Nuthin I can't handle..." Raph said shifting uncomfortably, not meeting Leo's eyes because it was obvious he didn't like how Leo was looking at him. Donnie had to bite his lip when Leo looked at Raph with fury in his eyes.

"Tell me!" He yelled again with no patience. Raph lost his cool.

"He broke both ma wrists so I couldn't fight back, okay?! Ya happy now?!" Raph exploded with tears prickling the corner of his eyes. Donnie pretended he didn't see it. "He slashed at my limbs not to mention he almost went after ma fingers!"

Leo went silent, his mouth parted and his eyes wide with horror. Then he did something that surprised us. He just gave Raph some space and started to cry a little.

"Leo..." Donnie said with sympathy. Donnie knew he was blaming himself. "C'mon guys, we need to keep a level head on things..."

"Keep a level head on things?" Raph repeated while Leo wept, he turned to Donnie causing his eyes to widen, all the hope is gone when Raph glared at Donnie. "I can't even use ma hands, Fearless keeps breaking down, and Mikey's injured!" Donnie just sat there looking down at Mikey, trying to ignore his own hurt.

"Y-You know what happened to Mikey...?" Leo spoke up, hiding his face in his hands.

"Shredder let me listen, so ya!" Raph hissed and crossed his legs, trying to examine his wrists. Donnie studied them and they were at odd angles. Donnie felt bile rise up in his throat but he had to stay strong.
