Football

I watched the boy's play football.
"Is it okay if I play?"
They laughed in my face
At recess today.

One boy approached me
A smirk crossed his face
"You can be our cheerleader."
I felt disgraced.

I slowly approached him
Forcing myself not to explode
At the pure ignorance
That this boy had just shown.

"What did you say?"
I asked in shock.
The boy then gulped
As I waited for him to talk.

"Go back to the kitchen."
He yelled uncertainly.
Every word this boy spoke
Was said scornfully.

Oh, how I wanted
To wipe away his proud grin.
My fist itched to punch him
In his high lifted chin.

But that would give him the thought
That what he said mattered.
If I hurt him until
He laid on the ground, battered.

I didn't give him
That satisfaction.
Although I now regret,
Not taking any action.

I just walked away.
From the boy that day.
I wish I had stayed.
Next time, I know what I will say.

AUTHORS NOTE

Ugh. All the pictures seriously prove my point of how sexist sports can be. Seriously, Google "football girl drawing". All you'll see are images of feminine girls clutching soccer balls and footballs to their huge dramatized breasts and in crop tops. Stuff like this is disgusting.
