Feast laid out
Crimson cranberry sauce
Carmel colored pie
Dripping thick gravy
Corn kissed with sunlight
Creamy, pure white potatoes
Freshly baked bread, sprinkled in flour
Among the dishes
Lays the crowned jewel
The golden brown turkey
Sitting proudly in the center
People talking
Laughing
Room filled with love
All the noise
Is simply a buzz in the background.
Food is placed
Covering my clean white plate with colors and smells
"Dig in!"
On this special day of the year
I allow myself a single bite
Destroying years of hard work
One. Single. Bite.
Plate pushed away
No more tempting
Smile politely
Stomach full from one sole bite
