Chapter 3
*Kennedy’s POV*
The smile never left my face the whole car ride to Hunter’s house. Brett was so fun to be with, and he actually had a pretty good voice. We pulled up on the dirt road when I heard the country music blasting in the back of the house. I watched as Brett put it in Park and got out. I pulled on the handle to my door but it wouldn’t budge. I tried again and no luck. That’s when I realized he had locked me in.
He walked around to my side and opened the door, freeing me from the vehicle. Grabbing onto his hand that he held out, I jumped down and landed softly onto the ground. Smiling down at me, he was still holding my hand.
“Thanks.” I said to him, concerned as to why I sounded so breathless. He simply nodded his head and dropped his hand from mine as we walked toward the door. “So I see you’re big on the chivalry.” I turned to look at him as we kept walking.
“Something like that.” He smirked when he responded and I saw a glimmer of humor flash through his eyes.
I opened the front door and walked in realizing that all the people were out back. I guided Brett through the house and reached the back porch to see the large crowd of people surrounding the backyard. The pool was packed and there was a mass of people next to it dancing to the current song playing.
“Small get together?” He questioned me as we saw the large amount of people in the backyard.
I shrugged. “Okay, a party.” We laughed between us when I heard my name being called. I smiled when I saw Bailey running up to me.
“Kennedy!” She cheered excitedly and pulled me into a tight hug. Last time I saw her was last week but she makes it seem like it’s been months. She pulled away and looked at Brett before glaring at me. “Who’s the cowboy?” She blatantly said.
“Oh right sorry! This is Brett Jones, the one who had the horse.” I explained. She seemed to get it after that and she smiled at him and shook his hand.
Bailey was my best friend. Her long brown hair was naturally straight and reached just to her elbow. She was beautiful, the definition of a southern bell. Her round face complemented her green eyes that shone brightly when she grins. She has this carefree air to her and is always smiling.
Every guy in town wanted to date her, not only for her skinny body and sensational hips, but also for her personality. She was loud and outgoing and could make anyone laugh with her charm. She sounds like someone who can be a real jerk being popular, but she was the sweetest thing. She always knew how to make me smile and was always there for me. Our outgoing and always-want-to-have-fun personalities are the reason we are best friends.
“Where’s Hunter?” I asked wanting to change the subject off the good-looking man next to me.
“He’s getting another keg from inside, should be out here in a little.” She told me. We chitchatted for a few minutes until she left us to grab another drink.
I turned toward Brett who looked comfortable standing there watching everyone. “Want a drink?”
“Sure, where’s it at?” He asked. I was confused but pointed to next to the speakers where some already drunk people where crowded around a table full of red cups. He nodded, “Alright, be right back.” Winking at me because he basically tricked me into letting him get the drinks, he went down the porch steps and over to the table.
I couldn’t stop myself from watching him as he walked away. His back muscles were clearly apparent through his shirt, his broad shoulders moving back and forth as he moved. He was an attractive man, and I had a feeling that he knew that. Usually men as attractive as him were complete jerks, but there was something different about Brett. His good looks weren’t the only thing I liked about him.
