Chapter 10

*Kennedy's POV*

"I think you should go with a subtle pink, like a periwinkle!" Molly exclaimed.

Bailey, Molly, and I were walking down the sidewalk, strolling from store to store looking for a dress for me to wear tonight.

"Molly, I think periwinkle is a blue not a pink." I snickered as she took a second to think about it. Molly wasn't the smartest pitchfork in the barn, but she had a heart of gold.

It was Friday and Chad was taking me out tonight. He called me late last night to remind me and said he would be picking me up around six, that means I only have three hours to find a dress. We had looked in two shops already and were heading down the street to the third. I really hate dress shopping, just because it takes too long and I get aggravated from trying on dress after dress. I put on a happy face though and figured I should be grateful that my friends are here to help me.

Bailey was only here because 1) She loves shopping and 2) She's wanted me to go on a date forever. She was more than glad that I was going out tonight. I think she was more excited than I was. To me, I just figured Chad wanted to hang out with me, I didn't really think much more of it. Sure he was a cute guy, but I don't think I'm interested in him right now.

"Oh that makes more sense. Well, either color would look great on you!" Molly spoke up in response.

Bailey and I giggled at Molly and continued to keep walking with her. The shop was around the corner of the main street in town where some of my best memories were made here. As we passed the corner, the three of us abruptly stopped.

"Well hey there ladies!" Hunter smiled in front of us.

But I wasn't looking at Hunter, I was looking at the attractive male next to him. I smiled up into his shining blue eyes and he tipped the front of his cap to me, sending a wink that I'm pretty sure only I saw. His adorable smirk was on full display, just watching my reaction to his charm.

"What are you three doing?" Hunter asked us. I was about to speak up and just tell him we were out shopping, but Bailey beat me to it.

"Kennedy's shopping for a dress 'cause she's got a date!" Bailey cheered, looking at me excitedly. I wanted to wrangle her neck right then and there.

"A date?" Brett, next to Hunter, questioned as he looked straight at me. His face was unreadable, but that charm and ease he had a few seconds ago had disappeared.

"No no, no." I rambled. "A friend of mine is just taking me to a movie, that's all." I tried to clear up the confusion. I just wanted Brett's smile to light up his face again, only now it was blank and emotionless. Was he angry?

"Oh please, I know you're hoping to get a lil' something after." Bailey winked at me. She wasn't making this situation any better.

I didn't know what to say, everyone was staring at me. Brett looked deflated, but he still presented himself confident as he stood tall before me. Unlike him, I felt like crawling in a dark hole and hiding from the world. How could Bailey just sell me out like this?

"No Bailey, that's not what I was hoping for." I said, monotone with my hand covering my face as I shook my head. This was so depressing.

"Alright. Well, Brett and I are going to get a beer if y'all want to come after your shopping." Hunter's open invite made me want to go with them, but I knew I had to find a dress because the date was only a few hours away.
