Harry, Ron and you walk through the halls of Hogwarts. Harry starts reading the note that was in Hermione's hand out loud.
"That's it. The monster in the Chamber of Secrets is a basilisk. That's why I can hear it speak."
"You can hear it speak ? How ?" You ask with a raised eyebrow.
"I can hear snakes talk. The monster in the Chamber of Secrets is a snake."
Harry looks back at the note, until Ron starts talking.
"But - if it kills by looking people in the eye, why is it no one's dead ?"
Both you and Harry start thinking.
"Because no one did look it in the eye", Harry thinks out loud. You follow his gaze and see that he's staring at his reflection in the nearby window.
"Not directly at least."
"That's right ! Susan probably saw it through the mirror of the girl's bathroom, and -"
"And Hermione had a mirror with her. She saw the basilisk through that", Ron says, finishing your sentence.
"Exactly. And Colin saw it through his camera, and Justin must've seen the basilisk through Nearly Headless Nick", Harry adds.
"But how did Mrs. Norris see it ?"
"I'm sure she didn't have a camera or a mirror with her."
Harry starts thinking again after you and Ron have asked about Mrs. Norris.
"There was water on the floor that night", Harry says. "She only saw the basilisk's reflection."
Ron nods, and so do you.
"So no one has directly looked him in the eye, there must be some way to get them back", you state.
"We have to figure something out", Harry says. He looks back at his note, and then starts walking again. He and Ron start talking a little, about spiders and about how the basilisk must've gone through the school without anyone seeing him.
"It's almost curfew, but we can't leave now", you say. Harry shakes his head, and the three of you walk further, until you see all the professors standing in the same hall, and looking at the wall. You all make as less noise as possible, and you try not to be seen, but you have to know what they're looking at.
"As you can see, the heir of Slytherin has left another message", professor McGonagall suddenly says. "A student has been taken by the monster into the Chamber itself. The students must be send home. I'm afraid this is the end of Hogwarts."
Just then, professor Lockheart walks towards the rest of the teachers.
"I'm so sorry", he starts, with the one charming smile every single girl student has fallen for. Everyone except for you and Susan. "What have I missed ?"
"A girl has been snatched by the monster, Lockheart. Your moment has come at last", Snape says with a blank expression. Lockheart's eyes widen.
"My m-moment ?"
Harry, Ron and you quietly listen to the professors.
"Weren't you saying last night that you've known all along where the entrance to the Chamber of Secrets is ?" Snape continues.
"That's settled. We'll leave you to deal with the monster, Gilderoy", professor McGonagall says as she looks at professor Lockheart. "Your skills after all are legend."
You notice that professor Lockheart swallows uncomfortably.
"Very well", he finally says. "I'll be in my office, getting ready." And with that he leaves. The professors watch him leave, until madam Pomfrey suddenly looks at professor McGonagall.
"Who has been taken, Minerva ?" Madam Pomfrey asks worriedly. McGonagall looks away from madam Pomfrey for a second, and blinks with her eyes.
"Ginny Weasley."
You stare at the teachers, who are now all leaving, and you are finally able to read the message on the wall. The message written in blood.
You place your hands over your mouth again, and slowly look at Ron.
"Her skeleton will lie in the Chamber forever", Ron reads the message out loud. He stares in front of him, not being able to say another word after hearing that his little sister has been taken by the monster.
"We will get her out of there", you say, not taking your eyes off of Ron.
"We have to go to professor Lockheart", Harry says as he starts walking, almost running. You and Ron follow him, until you're all in his classroom.
"We have to tell him what we know."As you walk into his office, you see that professor Lockheart isn't getting ready at all.
"Are you going somewhere ?" Harry asks with a raised eyebrow. You look around the room, and see that the professor is loading his trunk. He's packing.
"Uh - yes - uh. Urgent call. Unavoidable. Gotta go", professor Lockheart rambles.
"But what about my sister ?" Ron asks. His voice sounds angry, yet scared also. "You're the Defense against the Dark Arts teacher. You can't go now."
"Well I must say, when I took the job, there was nothing in the job description about -"
"You're running away ?" You ask, blocking Lockheart's path as he's trying to leave his office.
"Yes, after all that stuff you did in your books ?" Harry adds. They start talking, and you all soon figure out that professor Lockheart has been lying in his books. He's a fraud.
"Is there anything you can do ?" Ron asks, now that he knows that Lockheart isn't as heroic as he pretends to be.
"Yes, now you mention it. I'm rather gifted with memory charms. Otherwise all those other wizards would've gone blabbing, and I wouldn't have sold another book."
He walks away from you.
"In fact, I'm afraid I'm going to have to do the same to you."
The professor turns around and points his wand at you, but you all have your wands pointed at him already.
"That's not going to happen", you say. You lead professor Lockheart out of his office, wands still pointed at him, and you all go to Moaning Myrtle. You're not sure why, but Harry said it was important. As you walk into the bathroom, you see Myrtle again, who's crying and moaning. You've seen her only once, which was last year, but the moment she sees Harry, she stops crying.
"Hello, Harry. And Blanche.
Even though she's a ghost, it seems as if she's blushing.
"What do you want ?"
"To ask you how you died", Harry says quietly.
"Oh, it was dreadful", she starts. The smile that had appeared on her face the moment she saw Harry, had now disappeared. "It happened here. I had hidden because all the students were teasing me about my glasses. I was crying. And then, I heard someone come in."
You listen carefully to her story, and without you even noticing, you lower your wand.
"They said something funny, in some sort of made up language. But I told him to go away", she angrily says as she comes closer. "And then I died."
"Just like that ?" You ask. Myrtle nods.
"How ?" Harry asks.
"I only remember seeing a pair of big great yellow eyes over there, by that sink."
You watch as Myrtle floats away, softly crying again. Harry turns to the sink Myrtle has just told about.
"I think this is the entrance to the Chamber of Secrets."
