Third Year: I'll Take Care Of You

Happily, you walk to your first class of that day, which is Care for Magical Creatures. Together with your best friend Susan you gather around Hagrid's hut, who is to be the new teacher for this class this year. Ernie doesn't have Care for Magical Creatures at all, so he's now having Herbology. Once all the students have arrived at Hagrid's hut, he starts his class. Everyone closes their mouths and starts listening to Hagrid, except for one person, of course. Draco Malfoy.

You all follow Hagrid into the forest, and you try to pay as less attention to Draco as possible, but you stop worrying about him as soon as you see the creature Hagrid is showing his class. He tells you all that this creature is a Hippogriff and he introduces him as Buckbeak.
"What even is that ?" You ask quietly. You notice that Susan, who is standing next to you, is just as impressed and scared as you are.
"He just told us what that ugly thing is", you hear Draco say to you from behind. You decide to ignore it and pay attention to Hagrid.
"Hippogriffs are very proud creatures. Very easily offended. You do not want to insult a Hippogriff. It may just be the last thing you'll ever do."
You swallow and listen carefully to what Hagrid tells you all.
"Now, who'd like to come and say hello ?"
The moment Hagrid has asked this, every single student takes a step back, all afraid to come closer to Buckbeak, yet one person doesn't move an inch. It's Harry Potter. He now has to come closer to Buckbeak. You all watch in fear.
"There's no way Potter can do this", Draco suddenly says, loud enough for you to hear. His friends start laughing, and you turn around to give Draco an angry glance.
"Of course Harry can do this", you say, and quickly turn around again. You see that Harry is petting Buckbeak, which puts a smile on your face, but suddenly, Hagrid picks Harry up and places him on Buckbeak's back to let him ride on the Hippogriff. Slightly scared, you watch Buckbeak fly away, with Harry on his back.
"What's this, Blanche ?" Draco starts again once Harry is gone. You turn around and walk closer to Draco.
"Don't", you hear Susan say quietly, but you don't listen.
"What's what, Draco ?"
"You standing up for Potter", Draco says. You notice that his friends are smirking at you. "You're not telling me that you secretly like Potter, right ?"
Draco is now the one smirking, and his friends start laughing. You give him an evil look and can't help but to give him a reply.
"No, I don't like Harry ! He's my friend, that's all."
Draco raises his eyebrow and the smirk can't be swept off his face. He's clearly enjoying this.
"Oh really, Lightwood ?"
"Yes, really, Draco !"
"Why don't you prove it ?"
Your angry look disappears and you look at him as if you don't understand what he wants you to do. You turn around, not wanting to let him get to you any more.
"I don't have to prove anything to you, Draco."
At the exact same moment, Harry comes back with Buckbeak and he lands safely on the ground. Everyone starts cheering, yet you can only give him a small smile. Harry gets off Buckbeak with Hagrid's help, and then he starts to talk with him.
"I'll show you how this is really done", you suddenly hear Draco whisper in your ear. He walks past you and you watch him walk up to Buckbeak.
"Draco, no !" You try, but he doesn't listen.
"He's so stubborn", you whisper to yourself as you shake your head.
"He's just as stubborn as you", Susan says. You look at her and smile innocently, until you hear Draco talk.
"You're not dangerous at all, are you ? You big ugly brute."
"Draco, stop !" You try, but you see Buckbeak already getting offended and he starts panicking. While he's panicking, he accidentally scratches Draco, who now falls on the ground. As Hagrid is trying to calm down Buckbeak, which works, you run up to Draco who's still laying on the ground. You're suddenly extremely worried, even though you don't really like the way he acts towards you 24/7.
"It's killed me !" Draco says. You kneel down beside him and try to calm him down.
"Don't be like this Draco, nothing has happened. You're still alive." You look at the scratch on his arm, then turn your head around to look at Hagrid.
"Hagrid, you have to take him to the hospital wing."
Hagrid nods and picks Draco up from the ground.
"Class dismissed", Hagrid says as he takes Draco away from everyone. You don't hesitate and follow him inside the castle.

Once Draco is laying in a hospital bed, madam Pomfrey immediately starts helping Draco.
"Can you stay here with him ? I have to go back to Buckbeak, but I'll come back here right after", Hagrid says as he turns to you. You swallow and look at Draco, who's laying calmly on his bed, his eyes closed. Without you even noticing, a soft smile appears on your face.
"Yes, I'll stay here with him", you say to Hagrid, but you don't look away from Draco. Hagrid thanks you, and then immediately leaves the hospital wing.
"He's not badly injured, so no need to worry. He'll be out of this bed soon", madam Pomfrey says with a smile. You smile back at her and watch her leave. As she's gone, you come closer to Draco and sit down on his bed. His eyes are closed and he's laying on his bed peacefully, yet he's not asleep like you thought. He turns his head and opens his eyes to look at you. You immediately stand up from his bed and look away from him, because you feel your cheeks getting red.
"What happened ?" Draco asks. You look at him and roll with your eyes.
"Don't act like you don't know !" You say with a smile. "It's not like you fainted in Hagrid's class. You perfectly well know what happened, Draco. You were overreacting."
"No, I mean, what happened ? Why did you stand up from my bed ?"
Your cheeks now get as red as they can possibly be.
"Nothing, I mean - no, nothing", you ramble quietly, but you stop the moment Draco takes your hand and makes you sit down on his bed again. You look him into his eyes and smile.
"What's going on, Draco ? Don't tell me you have a weak spot for me now you're laying in this hospital bed", you tease him with a smirk. You notice a smile appearing on his face. A genuine smile. You start blushing even more as you notice that Draco hasn't let go of your hand.
"What if I do ?" Draco asks with an innocent and sweet smile.
"There you are !" You suddenly hear someone say. Out of reflexes, you immediately jump up from the bed and you can't reply to Draco. You turn around to see who's entered the hospital wing. It's Susan.
"What are you doing here ? You were gone all of the sudden ! You could've at least told me where you -"
She stops talking the moment she sees who's laying in the bed you're standing next to.
"Hagrid asked me to watch him. He'll be back soon", you say as you notice Susan staring at Draco. Then Hagrid barges through the door.
"Thank you for staying here, Blanche", Hagrid says.
"Come on, Blanche. Hagrid's here, you can leave now", Susan pushes you. You turn around to look at Draco. He smiles at you, and you softly smile back at him. Then you walk up to Susan and leave the hospital wing. Whatever just happened with Draco, it was weird, but it felt good too. He was nice to you, which gave you hope.
