Chapter 4
"Excuse me? Will you repeat that?" I said. Maybe I'd heard him wrong because it sounded like he said,
"I can help you." he said again. He looked at me so expectantly, with those blue eyes of his. For the first time in a while, I felt reassured. I was definitely having a moment. When I had finally came to my senses, he was sitting down. And had a drink of water for the both of us. I just had to ask,
"Aren't you wondering? Are you gonna ask why I'm running?" I looked at him waiting to see what he was gonna say.
"Yes, I'm wondering. But no, not really. Because, Kim in the two years I have known you, you have exhibited great leadership qualities and great decision-making skills. Long story short, you have a great head on your shoulders so I trust that you have very good reason." Did he say trust? He put me and good in the same sentence? Wow, was he making feel better.
"Oh, thanks." Was all I could manage at that moment.
(chuckle lightly)"Well, would you like my help? It's not much but..."
"Yes, very much so." Thank-you God.
"Well for starters, let's go get your last check." Like he read my mind.
We had just come back from getting my check and from Phil putting in his orders for lunch. Someone was going for take-out. We were now sitting back in his office in the big nice comfy office. And I was waiting for him to tell me how he could help me.
"So, do you know where you're going?"
"No but I want to go somewhere big. Like to a nicer more free place than this little town. Somewhere runaways have a chance." I said sounding like a little girl, spilling my dreams. But it was true, if I was running to a little town like this, I'd get nowhere except, maybe in jail.
"Oh well, that's funny. You know I just bought some rental properties in a city called, Freemont. Have you ever heard of that place?" Have I???? That was major city for our little area. Although that was kinda far. I could go there.
"Yes," was all I said. But I think my smile gave all my excitement away. Because. He smiled back and said,
"Well, it seems I'm having the hardest time getting residents in them. Would you like to stay in one, you know to get on your feet?" Is he serious? For how much?
"For how much?" I asked eying him suspiciously.
"Well," Well? Up-oh..."I guess, for free for a month but, after that it would be eight-hundred, fifty a month. And please know that's two hundred bucks cheaper than the price I've offered everyone else." he said very seriously.
"What!!! Really?? A whole month FREE?" I said in shock. I could feel my face turning red. "How can I repay you? Is there anything you need? Or want me to get?" I asked trying to think of something of significance, I could give back to him.
"Well..." The look on his face kinda scared me. It was really weird and different. Like a crazy person I began to try to read his thoughts with no luck or success.
*Phil's P.O.V*
"Well..." Kim was a very pretty girl. And the last time I let someone stay in one of my rental houses was last year, she was a real hottie and she helped me with some very PERSONAL needs. Haha, if you catch my drift. But, Kim's not slutty like that. And plus, I've always though of Kim as like a little sister. And I just couldn't do that or take that from her. But then, again.......
