"My dad wants to meet you." Luna gushed over he phone. "So you talk about me?" Anyone could hear the smirk dripping in his voice. "Don't flatter yourself too much there, Dani." She laughed. All the way from down stairs, Rich could hear the laughter of his daughter. The real laughter that he hadn't heard in so long, he would have to thank Daniel later for bringing his daughter back.
"But seriously, I think my dad should meet the person who I've been talking to non-stop for three weeks." Luna spoke with a smile, one that she had been wearing since they started talking. "Ok, set it up and I'll come over." Daniel spoke back. "Ok." With that they ended the call and Luna raced downstairs. "Dad! Daniel wants to meet you," Luna had a wide smile when she saw her dad with his guitar on his knee. "You haven't picked that up since mom died." Luna's smile didn't leave her face though, she was happy that things seemed to be going back to normal. "And you haven't sang since she passed, so sing with me?" Rich spoke to his daughter and patted the spot next to him. Luna nodded her head and then sat down next to him.
Rich played the tune to 'You're Not There' and right away, Luna didn't know if she was able to do it. When her dad started to sing, Luna got a bit choked up, but this was for her dad and that's all that mattered. So when she let the first line slip off her lips, she felt relieved. She felt this weight be lifted off her shoulders. Almost as if this is what Vega, her mom, wanted her to do. When the song was finished, she looked over to her dad, and just let the tears fall. They weren't sad tears, they were happy tears. She was happy that, that song gave her this sense of security.
She fell into her dads open arms and just sobbed. It was almost like when she was little where she would sit on her dads lap and cry about not being able to ride a bike. But this wasn't the same. "Go to him." Luna was confused at first but then realized. "Are you sure?" She looked up at her dad who just shook his head. She got up and pressed a kiss to his forehead and, without any further words, walked out the house and across the street. She knocked on the door and heard footsteps running to the door. When the door opened, she saw the boy she had come for. He simply opened his arms, to which she walked into. Running a hand through the hair on the crown of her head, he placed light kisses to her head while the girl cried in his arms.
Daniel closed the door and leaned against it, sitting on the floor. But not once did he let Luna slip from his grasp. Eventually after a while of crying, and Daniel comforting her, Luna's cries stopped. When they did, he looked down to see his girl asleep in the crook of his neck. He was relieved that at least for a couple hours, the pain would stop. He picked her up and walked up the stairs to his bedroom. The boys in the hallway watched with smiles tugging at their lips. Daniel had finally found the missing piece, and the boys couldn't be happier.
And in this moment, Daniel realized how deeply he did love this girl. And Luna felt the same as soon as she walked into his open arms.
