Evan Hansen , sitting in a dark oak chair, was wracking his brain for idea prompts for his application essays. His green tea near the left hand corner of the table, his hands on the keyboard as he tried to come up with the words. "Ugh, why is this s-so hard?" he said in frustration. " Heheh, that's what your mom said~" said his perverted 'best friend'. "S-shut up Jared. " Jared grinned like the pervert he was, giggled like a fool. "But in all seriousness.. whats wrong Evan?" Evan sighed, " I can't figure out what to write for these application essays.. My mom wanted me to finish them this week before school ends, and over the summer..." Jared scrunched up his face in a confused look. "She wants you to look at colleges already?" Evan picked at his thumb underneath the tree like table of the nature themed coffee shop. "Jared, we are juniors soon to be seniors, in high school. Y-you should have your college plans in mind this y-year." Jared scoffed. "We have time weirdo" Evan tried not to read into the insult. Jared grinned and chuckled "Besides.. we have other things to do like 'look at treeees' " Evan bit his cheek, " Hey, I l-like trees, they are cool. " Jared stuck his tongue at him "About as cool as needle point!" Jared gave him a triumphant smile, his pride flowing for his terrible joke. Jared took a drink from his Mocha Frap coffee. "Evan, where did you even find this place?" Evan's eyes lit up, "Its a block down from my new summer job." "Evan, that's gay." Jared said, taking another sip from his cup, drinking the last of it. Evan avoided eye contact and looked down at his computer screen and tried to begin his essay. "Aaanyway, I am out of here. Bye Hansen. " Jared flicked Evan in the back of the head, producing a wince from the sensitive boy. "B-bye Jared. See you at school tomorrow." Kleinman groaned in disappointment as he left the shop.
Evan put the last few words down on his first application essay. Taking a a final drink from his 5th green tea that day he began to pack up and leave. Evan thought about the day tomorrow, his last day of school. Till next year of course. He felt a feeling of relief as he held his computer close to his chest. Saturday is the day that he will once again start his summer job. Evan smiled as he walked away from the coffee shop, The bright green sign shining its name 'THE TREE HOUSE' on to the concrete sidewalk below. The wind blowing in his face as he went home.
Evan swung open the door to his home, his mother wasn't home. He could tell, she was never home on a Thursday night. Evan plopped down on the couch and let out a exasperated sigh as he unlocked his cell phone, he begun to scroll through his phone and noticed recent messages from Jared.
CRONCH: Broo, guess what!
CRONCH: I FOUND BATHBOMBS
Evan sighed in a disappointed tone.
Trees: Jared, no don't do it.
Jared always said he would eat a bath bomb if he found the perfect one, and of course, Jared gave Evan every reason to assume he finally found the perfect one.
CRONCH: You cant stop me. I will eat it.
Trees: JARED. No
CRONCH: Why not?
Trees: Obviously you would die Jared!!
CRONCH: You don't know that.
Trees: Um yea I do.
CRONCH: *sigh* fiiiiine.
Evan chuckled a little under his breath. Evan turned his phone off placing it on the couch and walked to the kitchen to find something to eat. "Mom left cash..." Hansen knew what that mean't. "Pizza..." Evan hated ordering pizza, he felt as if he was put on display, like the employee was judging him. Evan took a deep breath and dialed the cheapest pizza place. "Cheezus Pizza, please tell me your order?" Evan's breath was raspy as he tried to breathe. "H-hi um yes.. U-um Could I get a cheese p-pizza?" "Yes sir, anything else with that?" "U-uh.. Um.. bread s-sticks?" "Alrighty! it will be delivered roughly around 12:01, thank you for ordering whit Cheezus Pizza." Evan almost eagerly hung up, his heart was racing in his chest making him feel weak and nauseated.
Hours past after the pizza arrived. Evan sat on the couch and ate almost as much as half the box of pizza. Evan sat and watched the hours tick by, prolonging inevitable sleep that was fast and closing in on his tired and exhausted body. As Evan scrolled through his phone once more, his eyes started to close, the weight of sleep crashing down on him as he drifted off to sleep. on the cheap cotton couch.
Evan woke up late for the last day, missing the bus, he called Jared to see if he could pick him up. "Sure my little tree flower." Jared said sarcastically. Jared always teased Evan's love for trees, even if it made Evan insecure. "T-thanks Jared." Evan quickly hung up before Jared could say anything. About 15 minutes later Jared showed up in front of his house, Jared gave him a smirk as he rolled down the window. "Hey there tree boy. Get in before we are late. " Evan hopped in the car and Jared drove them off to their last educational hell.
