Evan enjoyed his summer job to a point. He was surrounded by trees and was happy for that fact, but no one there noticed him. He felt invisible to everyone. In Evan's eyes he wasn't worth that much.
Evan went on break later in the day. He walked through the grove of trees and ate his sandwich. He smiled a little as he felt the cool breeze on his face, he took a breathe and took it all in, his surroundings. All he could see was sky, stretching in for forever in the great beyond, a world not open to him or so he believed.
After Evan was done with his food, he started to climb the tree he sat against. Hansen climbed higher and higher to the top of the tree, the ground shrinking as he went higher and higher and higher. He could hear the sound of small insects and the leaves swaying with the breeze, almost like a natural orchestra. The music of nature, one of the best things in this life, to him anyway. Evan didn't hear the branch under him cracking as his hearing was focused on the music around him, his mind filled with a calm, but sad, cloud of thought.
Evan didn't notice till the branch gave way, instinct caused him to grab the nearest branch to save himself. His hand grasped the branch with a strong hold, his body and gravity weighing him down.
And then.. a thought came to his mind. 'Does anyone care if I fall... I could just let go.. no one would notice me gone. No one would see me die.. ' And in that moment...
He let himself go. It was like in one of those slow motion movie scenes, time seemed to stand still as he fell toward the ground getting closer and closer to impact. And then, he hit the ground, his arm went numb. He could feel the pain shoot up his arm from the impact. But he was alive. Even if he fell.. "I can't even die right..." Evan whispered to himself.
"Holy shit! you alright!" He heard from above him. Evan looked up farther and noticed a boy in black with longish hair. The boy seemed familiar to him, he just couldn't pin point where. The boy helped Evan up from the ground, making Hansen wince in pain as the boy brushed up on his arm. "Fuck man.. I am sorry" the stranger said to him when Evan hissed in pain. Hansen could feel tears start to cloud his vision. "I-I am alright, its fine.."
The strangers face furrowed in slight anger. "No you're not, your damn arm is broken idiot." Evan bit his lip "Lets get you some help..." The stranger picked Evan up in his arms, taking into consideration his broken arm, holding him like a new bride. Evan turned a shade of pink from the sudden closeness. The stranger took Evan to the hospital and had Evan call his mom. The doctor there was filling in Evan and his mom, who was some what distraught. Evan wasn't really listening to him, his eyes on the beautiful stranger who saved him. "....is that alright Evan?" The doctor said. Evan's eyes snapped up to the doctor. "Oh um.. s-sure?" The doctor smiled and nodded. "Then we will see if we can get that arm fixed. " Evans mom nodded, her hand ruffling through Hansen's hair affectionately.
Evan looked down at his cast, a blank slate, his arm still felt numb slightly and stiff. "That's what i want you to do Evan. " His therapist said to him, folding her hands on her lap, looking at him from across the table. "Ok." His therapist smiled. "Remember those letter have to be written everyday.. Just write something like 'Dear Evan Hansen, today's going to be a good day, and here's why.' See simple." Evan nodded and forced a smile after she gave him his prescribed pills.
Evan laid in bed that night, his mind wandering back to the stranger from earlier that day. His mind thinking back to his eyes, and his face, ad the strength.. Evan blushed as his eyes flickered closed.
Sleep took him from reality, to a dream of a kiss from a dark angel. His lovely stranger.
"Connor, why are you late?" A mother asked her son. "I was helping someone mom.. " Connor said to his mother. "I bet you he was just getting high." His sister said to him with cheeky smile. "Shut up , Zoe. "
Connor's own mind went back to the boy who was in the trees.. His face, and his sorrowful eyes. Connor shook his head and erased the memory, looking up at his mom. "So what crap is for dinner this time?"
