Chapter 6
I felt like a big rhino horn impaled my stomach. Why didn't they tell me sooner? More importantly, why didn't I figure it out myself? I knew we weren't official, but I felt so heart broken right now. He said he loved me. I was dumb enough to actually believe that. Then I realized he said that to everybody for almost 2 years.
I wanted to punch someing really hard that time and I ended up punching the wall with all my might, spraining my wrist, and down to the nurse's office I go.
Mrs. Lily, the school nurse, was a nice lady who had an only daughter studying here. She was always taking good cares of practically the whole student body and from time-to-time, even teachers. She cares for the students like her own children and worries especially for the preschool boys. She would often come to our Health classes to assist our teacher with any materials in the clinic and she would do it quite entertainingly. The most outstanding thing about her is that she took care of us even off-duty. She was, as people would say, the ideal caretaker.
As I made my way past the glass doors and opened the curtains, I saw the well-known Mrs. Lily, bandaging the arm of an even more well-known student.
James.
"P-pardon me, I seem to have come in a bad time..."
As I turned to walk away, I felt a strong hand grip my shoulder, "Wait."
I knew that hand all too well. It was Jame's. I quickly swatted his hand away, looking at him in grimace. He obviously looked shocked at my respond.
"James, sit down right now! You'll hurt yourself again." Mrs. Lily exclaimed.
Noticing the situation, I fixed my skirt and cleared my throat, "Sorry for the interruption, Mrs. Lily. Where may I get some bandages and... Uhmm... That thing you use for the hot compress?"
She pointed at the cupboard to my left, "On the third drawer, doll. What happened to you?"
I glanced at James, who was equally worried, I think.
Looking back at her, "Nothing, Mrs. Lily. Just a sprain."
After I got what I needed, I turn to leave, but just as I was getting out of the door, I glanced back at James. I didn't get a chance to see him for a while now, I might as well tell him what I know before I lose the chance ever again. I decided to wait until she was almost done with him.
After a few seconds, I asked her, "What happened to James here anyway?"
"He had a fight again with someone. Something about a girl in 7th grade, I think." She answered, eyes still fixed on James.
I took a deep breath and let it all out without thinking, "Well, her girlfriend outside of school must be really worried about him. Well, I hope he gets well, thanks for the bandage, Mrs. Lily."
I then quickly left the clinic after what I said, didn't bother waiting for her You're welcome. I walked a little slower when I got outside the door and heard the door open and then close again. It was surely James.
Of all the sorry's I've known, I have never been so enraged on this one, "What the hell, Ren?"
I shot him my best Fuck you face, turning around, "You tell me, James!"
He stepped back a little, obviously surprised at my sudden burst of anger, and sighed like nothing serious was happening, "Look, I know I haven't been able to make time for you today 'cause I was busy, but--"
I cut him off, nearly roaring at the disbelief I felt after hearing that, "Yeah, 'cause I miss you all the fucking time, right? You're so full of yourself, James! Doesn't it ever occur to you that I might not like you the way you think I do?!"
He just shrugged, "Well, don't you? All you women always do."
I just facepalmed in what I was hearing right now, "Well, apparently not all, James. Why don't you just run to your little girlfriend and tell that to her? She might be able to agree with you."
"Was it Krissy who told you? Auugggh you know what? Whatever. I don't care. I don't care about her. We're practically over now. Stay with me, please."
I shook my head, avoiding the last line, "Was it official? Your break up?"
"N-no, but--"
"Then it's over." I then turned and walked away, never looking back. If there was a thing I hated the most of a relationship in the world, that was cheating. He can't just get whoever he wants and get away with it. It was so unfair for the other side of the relationship.
Screw him, screw her, screw everyone. I don't care anymore.
Just then, I bumped into someone and tripped. I looked up and saw a face I haven't noticed for a couple of weeks.
He had his phone on his hand and headphones attached to it. The difference was, they weren't on his ear, they were just dangling in the air. He looked at me with his eyes wide but full of concern, "Hey, you okay?"
