Description: Cyrus, a closeted kid, spends his time constantly wondering why he likes Jonah.
—————
Cyrus took a seat at the lunch table next to Jonah. "Hey, Cy." Jonah said flirtatiously.
Cyrus made a little smile. "Hi, Jonah." His heart started racing, and he didn't even know why.
He always contemplated his feelings towards Jonah. That guy was so confusing. He hits on Cyrus, but also checks out some girls as well. In a simple way, Jonah was super horny.
Cyrus, on the other hand, wasn't shallow at all. He only cared about romantic relationships, and focused more on how good someone's personality was. But... Jonah's wasn't that good. So why did Cyrus have a crush on him?
Jonah took a look at a blonde walking past. "Dude, Amber over there? She is soooo hot! Like a 10."
Cyrus grew a bit annoyed. "Don't you ever rate someone on their personality? I mean, Amber is super rude to everyone."
His crush shrugged. "She's pretty. That's all that matters to me."
Cyrus sighed. There's no possible way to change how he views people. He thought for a while. Maybe that's why I haven't made a move on him. I don't want to be dating a shallow jerk. But still, why do I have to like him?
—————
Andi confronted Cyrus about this later that day. "You have to get over Jonah. It's not good for you."
"I know I do." Cyrus replied. "I'm not one of those love-blind people who only see good things in their crush. I know that Jonah has like a hundred flaws. But I can't shake it. No matter how hard I try, I still like him."
"Why do you like him anyways? And don't give me one of your theories that explains it, because we all know that 'liking someone to try change them for the better' is not a good reason."
"If I can't give you a theory, then I don't know why I like him. Maybe I'm into his confidence or something?"
"Or, maybe you think he's attractive?"
Cyrus violently shook his head. "No! No way! I'm nothing like Jonah! I'm not some shallow bastard who only crushes on someone because of looks!"
"Liking someone because of looks doesn't make you shallow. Cyrus, you are actually taking the time to get to know Jonah a little more. That's what makes you better than him. You actually try to get to know your crushes before making a move."
Cyrus chuckled. "Thanks for that advice, Andi. But, how does that help me get over him?"
"I don't know," she replied while shrugging, "But maybe now you know why you like him. Now, you need to see if he actually likes you, or if he's just using you."
—————
Cyrus walked to Jonah confidently, and asked out of the blue, "Jonah, do you like me?"
"Hell yeah." Jonah said without hesitation.
"Prove it. Say something you like about me, and it can't be a body part of any physical thing about me."
Jonah stood speechless. "Why are you making this so hard, Cyrus?"
Cyrus scoffed. "If you weren't so shallow all the time, maybe you could actually think of something."
"Oh yeah? Say something you like about me."
"I like how you're confident around everyone, and how you can stay so positive all the time." Jonah continued to be speechless, making Cyrus scoff once more.
"Yeah. And you can't even say one thing you like about me. Jonah, this is why I never made a move on you. You have absolutely no respect for anyone. I'm obviously not going to get rid of this crush I have on you, but at least I'm smart enough to know not to try date someone who I know will hurt me in the end."
Cyrus turned and walked away, relieved at what he just pulled off today. He'll find someone else. Someone who he knows will actually make him happy. But for now, Jonah will have to do.
