Sohyun

"We're here," Guanlin announced as I finished playing Seonho's voice recording for the third time. I have never got tired of his voice, it was calming and sweet enough that it almost washed away all the pain that I have felt since earlier. And his laugh in between his lines, oh his laugh. It was undoubtedly beautiful. Even for just a short time, his laugh made me happy.

I gave Guanlin back his phone the earphones. Actually, it was my first time holding a legit phone, and it felt thin and cubical, and it felt so fragile and expensive. I never had a phone in my entire life since I won't be able to use it. My mom had one, but she never let me borrow it because what's the use of borrowing it when you can't even use it?

Guanlin held my hand and led me inside the hospital. This familiar simple gesture somehow reminded me of Seonho, and my heart ached bitterly. I silently put my hand against my pounding chest and took a deep breath before going in.

Seonho was someone very precious to me. He was that someone who accompanied me when I was lonely, comforted me when I was sad, and made me experience what it meant to be happy and have fun. Little did I know that Seonho too, was searching for the meaning of happiness and what it really meant to be happy. He was a childhood full of despair and grief— an evitable effect on him because of his serious injury.

During our time together, two hollow souls were put together and we unconciously found what we desired in each other's presence. But unfortunately, one of the two left early, and Seonho left me alone in this frigid world with our newfound meaning of happiness.

"Sohyun!" Chani's voice rang throughout the hall, startling me. "Sohyun!" He cried as he hugged me.

I was met by his hug and I immediately carried him in my arms. I don't know why, but Chani's hug made melancholy wash over me and I can't help stop the tears that flowed down my face. I hugged him tightly as he cried in my arms, and somehow, just a little bit— just a little, bit comforted me of my sadness.

"Sohyun," I heard my mother's voice call me. I perked up my ears.

"Mom?"

There was no answer. But instead I got a very warm embrace from my mother. I heard her sob, and I felt her tears trickle down unto my bare skin.

"Mom..."

All she gave me was silence, and together, we silently embraced each other. I felt another pair of arms join us and I figured out that it was Guanlin. He joined the group hug.

After a short moment of silence, my mother was the first to break the hug. "Are you okay?" she cupped my wet cheeks.

"I-I'm trying," I bit my lip, trying to stop myself from crying again.

"Be strong, dear." She hugged me once more and softly patted my head. "Be strong."

"Guanlin," My mother called out.
