♠Sohyun♠"Father, why is my world full of darkness unlike yours? I would like to see a little of the light from your world too." I asked innocently, as I tugged on the arm of my father as we were walking on a sidewalk.
I felt my father lifting me up and holding me in his arms. "My dear child, that is what is special about you, you are unique. You see the darkness that we can't see. Unlike us, you can light up your own world, in your very own way. Meanwhile, we already have the the light, and we only strive to keep it, keeping the darkness away."
I pouted. "But I won't be seeing beautiful creatures like birds and the trees and the sunsets. I won't be able to see a person's pretty face."
I heard my father laugh. "You don't need to see to know something is beautiful. There are many ways you can distinguish if one beautiful. Personality, for example. You have the power to judge a person by their personality not by their looks."
The little me gaped my mouth, dumbfounded at what my father had said.
I felt him softly kiss my forhead. "My dear Sohyun, the only thing worse than being blind is is having sight but no vision."
He came to a stop, and let me down to walk. I heard a ring, indicating that we entered a shop. As soon as we entered, I was greeted with various sounds. Animal sounds.
A pet shop.
"Now listen very clearly, and find a certain sound that is unique to you, something special, just like you." My father instructed.
I concentrated and perked up my ears, using it in hearing different sounds of the pets. It took me a moment to distinguish the sound one by one. And then came a certain sound that I liked.
A bark.
It wasn't a cute one, a deep one, nor a scary one. It was a simple bark of a dog. But there was something peculiar in it, just like how it soothes my ears and calms me down.
I straddled to that sound and as I got nearer, it became clearer, and it was music to my cute little ears.
"This one." I said.
"We'll take this." My father said to someone.
We decided to name the dog Winter, because as soon we stepped out of that pet shop, it was snowing.
The first snowfall.
We went back home, happy and satisfied by our little bonding. My father was a busy man, and today was his day off. And he decided to spend his time with me.
The next day, he got out early to his work. I bid goodbye to him as I was held by my mother.
But happiness didn't last long.
Because the father that came back to me that night,
was a lifeless corpse.
