His hand was on my lower back, it made me nauseas as we entered the room.

"Hey, mom."

My mom was standing in the kitchen, her face was covered in worry and I suspect Archer has been here. There were two chairs pulled out at the kitchen table, I guess he was just here.

I smiled to myself and watched my mother smile at me.

"Raeleigh! Thank goodness, I was starting to miss you! Who is this?" She asked, her acting was getting better.

"Uh, this is-"

"Her boyfriend," he finished for me.

He took this opportunity to put his arm around me, pulling me into his side.

"Oh, really? What happened to Archer?" She asked, smirking.

Nice one, mom.

"I don't think that matters," Evan mumbled, hugging me to him harder.

"I think you have to go upstairs and grab something, can we just get to know each other?" my mother asked, smiling as I backed out of Evan's grip.

He left the gun in the car, something about how if he brought it things could go wrong.

Evan quickly changed his confident glare into a curious stare as I smiled to my mom.

"You'll be fine. It's not like I'm leaving in the same room as some psychopath," I mumbled, pushing my luck further.

His face was hard, his body stiff as I ran up the stairs.

I heard him talking to my mother as I shut my bedroom door.

I glanced around my room, quickly realizing what I had to get.

"Archer," I mumbled, running to him.

I threw my arms around him, my head aching as the tears I've been holding in all day spilled out. Ever since Archer left my dad's house I've been hoping he made it home safe. I can feel his heart beating against his chest, this is what is real.

"I'm sorry, I couldn't tell if you were mad about the things I said earlier. I'm sorry," I said, rushing all of my words out as a jumbled whisper.

He tilted my chin up now, his lips covering mine in a second.

He pulled back quickly, his eyes shut.

"I know you didn't mean any of it," he mumbled, kissing me again.

I can't stay up here too long, Evan will get suspicious.

"I should go back down," I mumbled.

He closed his eyes now, a small frown forming.

"I know," He mumbled, placing his hand on the back of my neck as I leaned up and kissed him softly.

His lips were soft, they embraced mine with what could've been love.

"Be safe," He mumbled, letting me go now.

I gave him a small smile as I put my ear to the door. I opened it slowly as it seemed silent on the staircase. I glanced around and noticed that Evan's voice was still echoing from down the stairs.

I can't fathom that Evan is waiting for me downstairs, the thought is insane.

I walked down the stairs slowly, my legs becoming more unsteady with each step. My heart felt like it could burst at any second and I knew the feeling of panic all to well to keep going. I can't tell if Evan could hear me coming down the stairs, it's too much to risk going back up.
