I sighed in frustration and punched my pillow repeatedly. We almost kissed! Why did everything have to fade away then? I then realized something. I could go back! I could go back and kiss him before it all fades away! I suddenly felt extremely tired. “Maybe tomorrow,” I muttered. I got into bed and shut my eyes, slowly drifting off.
When I opened my eyes, I thought I felt arms around my waist. I thought it was just my mind imagining things, and that I was completely alone. However, when I turned around, I saw short, white hair, and two hazel eyes staring right back at me. I nearly screamed, but Gerard quickly put his hand over my mouth and mouthed the words, “Be quiet.” I nodded and whispered-yelled, “What are you doing here?! And how did you get here?”
“I’m a phantom. I can come here anytime I want. And I came here because I have something to tell you.”
“What?” He looked down, and I could see the sadness in his eyes. “Gerard?” He shook his head and said, “Maybe I shouldn’t tell you.”
“Gerard, just tell me, please.” He sighed. “You sure?”
“Positive.” He ran a hand through his hair. “How do I say it? Well, you’re gonna die soon.” My face went pale. “What?”
“You’re gonna die soon.”
“When?”
“I don’t know. Maybe by the end of this week?” He shrugged. “I wish I could tell you, but I don’t know, either.” I let a single tear run down my cheek. He quickly wiped it away and held me close. I sobbed into his chest. He rubbed my back and played with my hair. He quietly said, “I have to go. I’m sorry.” I nodded, and he kissed me on the cheek before fading away. I wiped away my tears and stood up. I walked downstairs, into the kitchen, to find my mother making pancakes. “Hey! How’d you sleep last night?”
“I slept fine.” She set a plate of pancakes down in front of me, and I poured syrup on them and ate them. “Hey, I wanted to ask you a question.” I looked up at her, signaling for her to continue. “Are you having nightmares?” I froze. How did she know? I nodded slowly. “I had one last night.”
“What happened?”
“I got pushed into an endless abyss by someone.”
“Who were they?”
“I don’t know. Just some random person.”
“Hmm. Well, hopefully, you don’t have any more nightmares like that. They have a tendency to feel so real.” I nodded and put my plate in the sink before heading back upstairs.
