Helena’s mother walked in, smiling, but her smile faded when she saw the heart monitor. She ran over to her daughter and put her hand over her heart.
Nothing.
Then she realized:
Helena died in her sleep.
She fell to her knees and sobbed, squeezing Helena’s hand. “No, no, no! No, please, no! Please!” She looked up at her pale, lifeless daughter, then saw someone in the corner. No - two people. The first person walked over to her. He had short, white hair, hazel eyes, and he was wearing a marching uniform. “Don’t worry. I’ll take good care of your daughter. By the way, I was able to bring someone special for you.” He stepped to the side, and the second man walked forward. She recognized him almost immediately.
Her husband.
Helena’s father.
Correction: Helena’s deceased father.
She stood up and put her hand over her mouth. He smiled sadly, and said, “You may think you did terribly because Helena’s gone, but you’re wrong. You did just fine.” He walked towards Helena and put a hand on her shoulder. “And believe me, you can trust Gerard with her.” They both began to fade away.
Helena’s mother smiled, then kissed her daughter on her forehead. She whispered, “I trust Gerard.”
