Helena decided that she wouldn’t visit Gerard that day. It would hurt too much to say goodbye. She shook her head and thought about everything that she could do before death. She could get in touch with her old friend. She used to live next to her, and she would always visit. But when she moved…

Helena didn’t want to think about it. And anyways, they wouldn’t have anything to talk about. And how would she start? “Hi, it’s your old friend, Helena, and I’m dying from lung cancer. I see the Black Parade every time I have a near-death experience. I’m falling in love with a man named Gerard. How has your life been so far?” No. It really wouldn’t be worth it.

She decided against her earlier decision and looked at dank memes for what felt like the last time. She did what she had to do, and ended up at the Black Parade once again. She ran towards Gerard. “Gee!” He turned around and looked at her. He outstretched his arms, and she ran into them. She hugged him tightly, tears rolling down her cheeks. He did the same, and he let a few tears roll down his cheeks, even though he already knew her fate. “Gerard?”

“No, I like Gee better.” She laughed, then looked up at him. “I know I’m gonna die really soon.”

“How?”

“Because the ash and smoke don’t bother me anymore.”
